The University of Miami/UHealth - Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Department of Specialty & Physician Support has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Project Manager. The Senior Project Manager leads teams to deliver projects that span across one or more units, in furtherance of institutional healthcare goals and objectives. Moreover, the incumbent manages resources, schedules, and financials for assigned healthcare units. The Senior Project Manager manages project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery.


  • Provides on-site leadership for project team by motivating team members to meet project goals.

  • Oversees multiple related projects to ensure the overall program is aligned to and directly in support of institutional objectives.

  • Prepares reports regarding project status, costs, and activities.

  • Establishes practices, policies, and partnerships to effectively carry out functions.

  • Prepares estimates and detailed project plans for all phases.

  • Procures adequate resources to achieve project objectives in established timeframe.

  • Monitors staff performance and completes performance reviews.

  • Drives feasibility studies and vendor selections.

  • Manages ongoing quality control and participates in quality issue resolution.

  • Ensures that projects and programs are proceeding according to schedule, budget, and quality standards.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.


Department Specific Functions:

Project Management

  • Creates and maintains comprehensive project plans that include tasks, milestone dates, resource assignments, issues/risks/decision, communication/testing/training plans, status updates, etc.

  • Leads cross-functional project teams by task assignment and follows up to ensure on-time completion.

  • Maintains effective management of multiple concurrent project assignments, all project documentation, and a complete project portfolio.

  • Performs forecasting, change management, escalation management, and meeting facilitation.

  • Works closely with clinical and operational sponsors, stakeholders, and technical teams to execute strategic projects that range in scope, budget, team size, risk, and complexity.

  • Conducts regular project reviews and is responsible for knowing and communicating a project's status accurately throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Proactively identifies and resolves issues that may negatively impact a project or project deliverables.


Process Improvement

  • Leads teams, work groups, projects, and activities designed to improve processes and clinical/operational performance.

  • Develops, organizes, and summarizes materials for reports and presentations including project data, analyses, and updates to key stakeholders and leadership.

  • Contributes to the development and delivery of education and training courses on process improvement principles and skills across the organization.

  • Consults with department leadership to identify appropriate key projects or process improvement projects that will provide optimal benefit to employees, patients, and system partners.

  • Completes observations, shadowing, time studies, and appropriate statistical analysis to define baseline metrics and quantify quality improvements using tools and techniques such as Visio workflows/swim lanes/process mapping, spaghetti maps, SIPOC, root cause analysis, fishbone diagram, time and motion studies, etc.

  • Ensures appropriate metrics and controls are in place to monitor results and foster continuous and sustainable improvements.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum of five (7) years of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:

Six Sigma Certification Preferred

PMP Certification Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Demonstrated project management knowledge including charters and scope development, business requirement documentation, change management, issue/risk management, communication planning, and all other aspects of project creation, implementation, and completion.

  • Demonstrated process improvement knowledge and ability including industry standard tools and techniques (i.e. Six Sigma, Lean, DMAIC, VOC, RCA)

  • Proven ability to communicate and build relationships stakeholders in effort to successfully gain buy-in and support for implementations and change management initiatives.

  • Ability to perform data analytics through data mining, re-engineering, manipulation, and organization to evaluate, prepare, and report information to senior leaders, staff, and other stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of data visualization and presentation techniques to effectively communicate information.

  • The ability to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Ability to run multiple projects efficiently and simultaneously.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft applications: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and MS Project.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
