Job Summary/Basic Function:
Develop and implement experiential and career learning activities within the university, assisting with overall planning and operational activities of the program
Department Overview:

The school is composed of rich and diverse academic programs, including Criminal Justice, Political Science, and Public Policy and Administration, as well as interdisciplinary programs such as Environmental Studies, Global Studies, and Urban Studies. The mission of the school is supported by a variety of centers and institutes that facilitate research and public engagement.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
60% of the time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinator must:

  • Collaborate to implement and promote a wide range of experiential and career learning programs based on best practices
  • Engage with faculty, staff, SPS administrators, students, and the campus community to develop, expand, and sustain high-impact ECL activities within SPS
  • Lead efforts to expand opportunities for experiential and career learning (ECL) that promote students' personal, educational, and professional development (e.g., classroom opportunities, community-engaged learning, field schools, and internship opportunities)
  • Promote the value of experiential and career learning (ECL) opportunities for students to internal and external constituencies
  • Research, track, and implement systems to assess the impacts of ECL on student and School Success
  • Coordinate the maintenance of strong and mutually beneficial relationships with relevant community and campus partners in order to increase the breadth and depth of student ECL opportunities
35% of the time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinator must:
  • Coordinate faculty/staff development opportunities related to ECL
  • Assist with student advising toward ECL opportunities
  • Create and manage policies and procedures for ECL. Continually evaluate and improve upon these processes
  • Interpret, apply, and implement policies and procedures to accomplish goals. This role will include financial and compliance-based duties such as purchasing and making travel arrangements
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for ECL activities.
  • Design and implement an annual event to showcase ECL in SPS that includes students, faculty, staff, community partners, and donors
  • Train and supervise student employees as needed
5% of the time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinator must:
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to support a diverse student population
  • Perform duties with attention to detail, and within University policies and procedures
  • Strong communication skills and an interest in working in a highly collaborative role with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and external partners
  • Knowledge of community partners, field sites, the public sector, and/or regional employers
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience plus 5 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a relevant field
Experience working in higher education
Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing new programs with diverse stakeholders Salary and Benefits:
$56,000 - $62,000 annually.
