UHealth IT has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Executive Director, Epic Ambulatory, MyChart and Research Applications. The Director will be primarily responsible for management, oversight, and development of the Oncology, Emergency department, Inpatient, Pharmacy and Clinical Support Applications. The Director will provide effective communication and direction in the deployment of the Core Clinical application and oversee the provision of accounts for all these applications. Moreover, the incumbent provides technical support to the application and provides an analysis of system requirements and specifications. Additionally, the Director provides the necessary experience and knowledge to ensure all aspects of the applications integrate with the other cross functional applications utilized by the organization.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Strategic Operations and Clinical Informatics and collaborates and works closely with other managers and directors.

  • Work with UChart resources, the UHealth organization and user community to ensure the application meets the organization needs.
  • Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, work assignments, performance appraisals, promotions, and disciplinary actions. Provide direct supervision for the Clinical Application Team.
  • Effectively utilize resources to achieve goals and objectives of the department.
  • Develop and monitor internal and external training programs to ensure that new personnel are oriented to departmental procedures and those personnel within the department unit.
  • Oversee the build, test, and debug activities for the core clinical applications to ensure the system meets end user requirements.
  • Oversee the analysis of end user department workflow, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with software as they relate to system design and build decision
  • Assist and monitor the budget to ensure the accuracy of data, and identification of variances and remedies.
  • Review and understand options in the application specifications and make recommendations on usage.
  • Perform in depth analysis of workflows, data collections, report details, and other technical issues associated with the Software
  • Analyze UHealth current and proposed business and clinical practices
  • Define and develop user requirements
  • Develop and document internal procedures to use in conjunction with applications
  • Work in conjunction with report writes to ensure that the applications have the necessary reports.
  • Review the coordination of software updates and changes.
  • Work with leadership for development of competitive strategic plans to achieve UMMSOM and the University of Miami Health Systems mission of excellence in medical care delivery, expanding medical knowledge through research and leading initiatives to provide quality health care to those who need it. The Executive Director of IT, Epic Ambulatory/MyChart/Research Applications will work with leadership on strategic issues facing the University of Miami Health System by determining and detailing potential feasibility and profitability of a project(s), growth and expansion opportunities, and other operational activities current and future.
  • Work with leadership to implement effective strategies and tactics to improve patient experiences and outcomes related to satisfaction and quality.
  • Perform other related duties to the work described herein.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Computer Science or related field.
  • Master's Degree preferred in Nursing, Computer Science or Medical related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in leading IT teams. At least 3 years in the executive level leadership in Epic applications.
  • A minimum of 5 + years of people leadership, strategy and budgeting required.
  • Experience in multi-site operations, complex infrastructure, healthcare and/or managed care industry.
  • Solid understanding of clinical workflow in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Excellent Quantitative, analytical communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.
  • Strong managerial performance and developing professional staff.
  • Ability to coordinate a detailed plan process involving management staff, Senior Leadership, and members of the Medical Staff.
  • Demonstrate Proficient knowledge of Personal Computers, Project Management, flow charts and data bases preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service experience and focus.
  • Ability to learn quickly and eagerness.
  • Successful candidate must understand meeting the service needs of academic and administrative technology users in a medical and higher education environment.
  • Excellent administrative skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to ensure customer satisfaction with quality output.
  • Technical understanding of network infrastructure systems, including both hardware and software.
  • Experience should include managerial experience that demonstrates the ability to lead a team of professional, technical, and support staff; and proven organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills. Ability to reason logically and creatively; to learn and utilize new technologies; to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations; and, to write clear, and concise reports.
