The Division of Development and Alumni Relations has an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director, Development to work in Coral Gables, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Executive Director, Development works with the Associate Vice President for Unit Development and the School of Law Dean to develop and implement key fundraising and alumni engagement strategies for the School and provides leadership for fundraising programs. Serving as chief advancement officer for the School, the Executive Director, Development prepares and maintains a master plan of funding priorities that help guide and focus fundraising efforts.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Lead the School of Law development team and meet or exceed all established campaign and annual fundraising goals, including:

  • Significantly increase annual giving and major and principal gift commitments to achieve an annual goal of $5M+
  • Make an appropriate amount of substantive cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts
  • Reach individual annual goals for number and amounts solicited, number and amounts funded, impact visits, and qualifications
  • Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals.

2. Identify prospective donors and funding sources and develops cultivation and solicitation plans.
3. Enlist volunteers to help identify, cultivate, and solicit other prospective donors.
4. Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on School of Law priorities.
5. Determine fundable projects and package them appropriately for consideration by donors.
6. Prepare annual work plan with measurable objectives and courses of action for all relevant activities.
7. In concert with the central department of Alumni Engagement, manage alumni engagement and annual giving for the Alumni Association including but not limited to alumni engagement efforts and alumni programming both regionally and locally.
8. Maintain communications with colleagues in other schools and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the University's key fundraising goals and objectives.
9. Document all contacts, communications, visits, and other appropriate case history files and places pertinent information in applicable database.
10. Formulate appropriate fundraising budgets and revenue projections.
11. When appropriate, plan and execute receptions, dinners, community activities and small events to support stewardship and cultivation for major gift donors.
12. Manage, mentor, and retain a highly efficient and effective team supporting advancement efforts including at least two additional development officers. Create an environment of collaboration and cooperation to work together to accomplish the specified goals. Establish fair and consistent metrics and accountabilities for the team, measure performance, and provide constructive feedback for improvement. Supervise freelance and temporary employees, and volunteer organizations.
13. Ensure internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with university policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Create an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements, and monitors controls.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 10 years of demonstrated successful experience in major gift fundraising and fundraising management, preferably in higher education. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to be highly organized, creative, energetic, and assertive, and exhibit the independent judgment and personal integrity necessary to carry out a senior management role in fundraising. A teamwork-oriented approach to colleagues and proven ability to manage people in a positive and constructive environment are essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
• Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
• Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
• Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
• Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
