PPD, Thermo Fisher's clinical research business, is a leading global contract research organization providing comprehensive, integrated drug development, laboratory and lifecycle management services. We have an exciting opening in our Global Finance team for an Executive Director, Controllership Operations position, sitting in either our Raleigh or Wilmington, NC offices.

This position will lead global accounting responsibilities, including monthly closing activities, of the controllership team (100+) and provide strategic direction and decision-making support to set and achieve objectives.

  • Leads the core accounting activities of the Clinical Research Group
  • Oversees a team of senior leaders globally responsible for accounting and compliance activities.
  • Demonstrates leadership, making strategic, timely decisions and taking intelligent risks designed to grow our business, based on financial analyses and data driven insight.
  • Partners with other PPD leaders to drive optimization in processes and systems, including Oracle Fusion
  • Ensures compliance with accounting, internal controls and other regulatory standards.
  • Leads by communicating effectively, prioritizing deliverables and driving consistency across regions and business units.
  • Interviews and selects top talent and develops teams' capabilities, knowledge, and business acumen.
  • Focuses on outcomes and impact, setting the bar high for performance and holding others to their commitments.
  • Empowers colleagues through transparency and works to create an engaging environment.
  • Listens to understand other peoples' input to build relationships, collaborate, resolve conflicts, and achieve results.
  • Develops and manages interpersonal relationships to influence decisions of senior leaders both within and outside of the company.
The ideal candidate will show fresh, insightful business thinking, combining creative insight with an understanding of business processes and systems, to drive continuous improvement and practical innovation.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification.
  • Previous financial experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 15+ years' experience). This includes 10+ years in a management level role.
  • CPA, or equivalent required.
  • Experience with a large global organization and ERP preferred.
  • In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Management Role:
  • Director role with significantly larger management scope (e.g. global or regional responsibilities or multiple departments) OR mastery of director skills and responsibilities as demonstrated by consistent, multi-year successful performance. Directs through subordinate management. In some instances, may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees. May manage employees across multiple regions.
