Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a motivated, Geologist / Engineer / Environmental Scientist with 0 to 2 years of experience to support field activities (stormwater sampling, waste characterization sampling, groundwater sampling, soil boring advancement, monitoring well installation, field inspections, and/or lead-based paint and asbestos sampling) to join our team in Louisville, KY. The successful candidate will perform sampling of surface soil, surface water, stormwater, and groundwater monitoring wells, in addition to operation and maintenance of soil and groundwater remediation equipment and systems, and other field tasks in support of environmental remediation, due diligence, and/or regulatory compliance projects. This position requires an individual with a desire to develop effective communication skills as client, agency, public, and team interactions are expected. We are seeking an individual with the motivation to gain experience conducting and planning for site assessments, due diligence projects, regulatory compliance projects, and remediation projects under RCRA, CERCLA, UST, and Brownfield regulatory programs, as well as other related environmental projects. Candidates should be self-motivated, be committed to working in a team environment, and be able to work on projects with variable complexity.

This person will be a member of a team providing a versatile range of environmental consulting services, such as due diligence, pre-demolition surveys, regulatory support, soil and groundwater sampling, hazardous building materials/asbestos sampling, and field inspections to government and private industry. This position will support a wide variety of environmental health and safety and regulatory compliance projects. Some of the responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Conduct due diligence projects, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment field work and technical report preparation in accordance with ASTM E1527-13
  • Schedule field sampling events and collect stormwater, groundwater, soil, waste characterization, and other samples for laboratory analysis
  • Collect lead-based paint and/or asbestos samples for compliance or pre-demolition projects
  • Supervise installation and development of soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells and/or piezometers according to project scope and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the completion of regulatory compliance reports, such as air permit reporting and recordkeeping, Tier2 reports, stormwater DMRs, and other agency reports
  • Adhere to site-specific health and safety plans and defined scopes of work to complete tasks safely, thoroughly, and accurately along with preparation of or assistance with the development of work scope, schedule, and budget
  • Assist in planning the execution of work, including subcontractor procurement
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports, including compiling analytical data
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors, including utility locators, drilling contractors, and remediation contractors
  • Evaluate compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
  • Willingness and ability to problem solve, adapt to site conditions, and develop solutions while in the field and office setting
  • Willingness to travel to project sites


Skills / Qualifications

Required
  • BS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or other related technical fields
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Computer proficient (including Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Pro)
  • Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills
  • Team player and technical contributor
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and frequently lift up to 35 pounds
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to work greater than 8-hours per day, as needed
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, as required
  • Daytime and overnight (up to a week or more) travel, as needed
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred
  • MS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology or Environmental Science or other related technical field
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
  • Experience with operation and/or maintenance of remediation systems or other similar equipment
