Job Description

Pay Rate: $20.00 - $25.00, Per Hour

Position Purpose:

The Engineering Intern provides process engineering support with field data collection, monitoring, and data analysis for the Engineering Department. The intern position works to provide up-to-date information on the critical membrane processes at one of the largest water recycling facilities in the country. The desired candidate should be a sophomore or junior majoring in engineering at an accredited college/university. The position is a yearlong internship.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Engineering Manager.
  • The position requires the selected candidate to work between 16-20 hours per week (not to exceed 1,000 hours annually) during the calendar year. The position is not entitled to any company benefits.
  • Perform field data collection on various MF/RO Processes.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze water recycling data for reports, monitoring, and process control.
  • Perform process troubleshooting under the guidance of Process Engineers.
  • May oversee small-scale projects to for process optimization or safety improvement.

  • The employee will be in both an office setting and an industrial facility environment.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.

  • The employee may be exposed to chemicals, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents, and vibrations.
  • The employee may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground, and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.
  • The employee will be provided and is required to wear personal protective equipment such as high visibility vest, safety-toed boots/shoes, safety glasses, and hard-hat.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Sophomore/Junior at an accredited college/university majoring in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required.
  • Previous work experience desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Fundamental knowledge of chemistry, physics, fluid dynamics/hydraulics, engineering principles,
  • Experience in a laboratory setting a plus.
  • Basic understanding of water, wastewater, and/or water recycling treatment processes a plus.
  • Possess proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Possess effective communication skills in both written and oral format.
  • Be comfortable performing analyses and data collection in an industrial-type setting.
  • Access to a personal vehicle needed for travel to and from offsite facilities as needed.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid CA Driver's License required.

  • Employee may be required to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
