The Telecom Engineer is responsible for serving as a subject matter resource regarding telecommunications issues, providing third-level support for network telecommunications troubleshooting. We are a CLEC and this role will work with our various Telecom vendors that we support to assist and troubleshoot key issues. Assist and provide telecommunications engineering solutions and designs, as well as leadership and direction on all assigned engineering projects or project tasks.
Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Network telecommunications, technical subject matter resource regarding telecommunications issues
• Provide third-level support for the department when troubleshooting telecommunications problems, ensuring problems are followed through to resolution
• Participate in engineering tasks and projects, including, but not limited to, the installation and maintenance of all telecommunications hardware and software, for local and remote sites
• Write formal methods and procedures for telecommunications record keeping and engineering practices and keep other related documentation and record keeping up to date
• Establish and maintain a professional relationship with various voice and data vendors and suppliers with whom the corporation deals
• Continually keep up-to-date on new products, development tools, industry trends, and methodologies for incorporation into telecommunications systems, which includes conducting an assessment of current and future information technologies
• Other duties as assigned

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineer or a related field, however equivalent work experience in a similar position may be substituted for educational requirements

Experience and Technical Skills

• 3 or more years of related telecommunications experience required, prior experience with a telecom carrier is preferred
• Voice switching systems such as TDM and VoIP required
• Telecommunications Transmission Systems required
• DS1 and DS3 test practices and equipment required
• Telecommunications cabling systems and equipment
• Sonus Media Gateway and SBCs a plus
• Ability to respond to incidents 24x7 required
• Prior experience in a client facing role preferred
