Description:
The Emergency Center Technician works under the direction of the RN. The responsibilities of the EC Tech include providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards. The EC Tech must exhibit the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to organize, set priorities and manage multiple priorities, and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Carries out secretarial duties related to the smooth functioning of their assigned nursing unit.
Must have knowledge of medical terminology, must be self motivated and be able to exercise

sound judgment in response to inquiries by patients and visitors. Must be able to prioritize tasks

efficiently, concentrate on tasks being performed, and be adaptable to change. Must be able to

multi-task. Must be able to perform duties quickly and accurately. Must be computer literate

Licensure/Certification/Registration: CPR required within 6 months of hire date. Certified Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred.

Education: Must be a high school graduate. Formal specialty training preferred.

Experience: No experience required.Medical terminology, phlebotomy and EKG experience preferred.

Special Qualifications: Able to assess the direct/indirect needs of the patient within the scope of their practice; plans/prioritizes patient care needs; implements appropriate patient care activities; evaluates effectiveness of specific patient care activities; communicates patient care needs; confidentiality issues; and maintains current knowledge base including basic knowledge of growth and development. Must be pleasant, polite and have an understanding of dealing with patients, answering the phone or interacting with hospital personnel and guests. Must be able to respond to stat requests. Must have initiative to react to changes in work needs. Must be able to work in stressful situations. Should be clean, neat, and have a "professional" appearance. Must have a high degree of initiative and good decision making ability. Must be able to get along with patients, public, and other health care workers. Must have a pleasant voice and use good phone manners. Must have neat appearance and conform to dress code. Must act in a professional manner at all times.
