Engineering IT Shared Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for an eLearning Specialist. We are the IT services provider for the nationally-ranked Grainger College of Engineering, providing services for teaching, research, and learning. The eLearning Specialist focuses on providing support and advice for teaching and learning resources, and rich media services in the Grainger College of Engineering. This role will primarily focus on Learning Management Systems (LMS), presentation/lecture capture, classroom technology, and learning management systems. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Instructional Services in Engineering IT Shared Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

eLearning System Support
Supporting lecture capture and media equipped rooms in the College of Engineering.
Maintaining systems related to presentation capture for the college's online programs and e-learning offerings including in-room systems and cloud-based services.
Providing support for teaching and learning technology used by Engineering online programs.
Assisting in designing and supporting classroom technology systems and work to adapt such systems to the unique needs of the unit where necessary.
Supporting faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants in use of learning management systems (LMS), including both standard templates and specialized implementation.
Creating rich media projects by recording, editing, doing any post-production as necessary.
Researching emerging technologies in the eLearning and multimedia field.

Customer Service and Support
Delivering excellent customer service by responding to requests in person, on the phone, or via email in a timely, polite, and professional manner.
Working on a team of IT professionals supporting the instructional customers of the College of Engineering.
Working with units, teams, and individuals to provide the unique technological needs for their instructional technology environment.
Working to build relationships with customer community by proactively communicating relevant information and discussing their needs, initiatives, and service levels through periodic meetings.
Working to resolve customer satisfaction issues.
Training and instructing students, faculty, and staff in the operation of equipment and systems in classrooms and studios.

Project Management and Task Delivery
Managing projects at the divisional or team level and drive deliverables and results by designated deadlines
Completing individual projects and tasks assigned by supervisor on time with quality.

Organizational Support
Interacting with various teams within Engineering IT Shared Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to the customers.
Implementing centralized services where practical and align them to the unique needs of unit or customers
Working within cross-functional teams, with limited authority for final decision making
As needed, supervising student/hourly employees, including the assignment of tasks, performance management, etc.
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


Five (5) Progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession
College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows:
60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year
90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years
Experience in IT operations or service delivery
Experience in a customer service environment
Professional experience supporting classroom or online instruction
Experience supporting instructors with one or more learning management systems (eg. Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, others).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in technology at an institution of higher education or equivalent.
Experience successfully distributing accessible media assets through multiple delivery points and formats in compliance with copyright and fair use.
Experience working in video production
Experience managing small projects of 3-6 months duration

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to troubleshoot common desktop and mobile computing applications and hardware.
Knowledge of basic IT security and privacy concepts.
Knowledge of current technology for production and display of multimedia content (e.g. cameras, mixers, projectors, and digital displays).
Knowledge of concepts and models for effective online course design
Knowledge of one or more presentation capture systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with students and instructors

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time Civil Service Information Technology Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum salary is $$72,700 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
