eLearning Content Developer

College of Applied Health Sciences

The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) (http://www.ahs.illinois.edu) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are searching for an eLearning Content Developer. The eLearning Content Developer is responsible for working with the eLearning Team on the development and implementation of AHS online courses, helping to create rigorous online learning experiences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with the AHS eLearning team to create rigorous and innovative learning resources for AHS online and blended courses.
Use digital tools to create media-rich content for optimal student engagement, including building and updating course content within learning management systems.
Inform faculty and instructors of best practices for creating and implementing engaging assessments and activities to evaluate student performance and meet course objectives.
Consult with faculty and instructors and assist with the production of digital assets for student learning.
Work with faculty and instructors to identify problems with course content and suggest changes to correct any problems and improve student learning outcomes.
Assist in the production of multimedia processes, including editing and reviewing lecture content, PowerPoints, and other pre- and post- production tasks needed to create engaging video lectures.
Stays up-to-date on current literature regarding best practices in student learning.

Maintain digital assets for online courses by organizing and archiving media resources, cataloging digital activities and assessments, and performing various administrative tasks within learning management systems.
Assist faculty and instructors in locating and appraising the quality of instructional materials and multimedia.

Develop online tutorials, technical documentation, training sessions and related web content for instructional technologies.
Provide troubleshooting support for instructional technologies.

Apply best practices for accessibility and universal design.
Ensure compliance with licensing and copyright laws and regulations.
Delegate tasks to student workers, interns, and hourly staff, and ensure quality and timely delivery of their work.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy
    AND
    Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
OR
  • Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities
    AND
    Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Substantial knowledge of educational technology tools for interaction and assessment
within a learning management system.
Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging and media-rich online learning
content.
Strong instructional technology skills, such as learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), synchronous learning tools (e.g. Zoom), Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline, H5P, HTML and CSS, Canva, and others.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills.
Demonstrated ability in creating high-quality digital assets.
Keen attention to detail and organizational skills.
Knowledge of best practices in standards-compliant responsive web design, accessibility, user-experience design and information architecture.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to interpret and explain University-level policy to faculty and instructors as it relates to online and blended learning.

Salary and Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3289 - Instructional Development Specialist position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $58,000 with the final salary offer determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.

Hybrid work options may be available for this position after an initial training/probationary period, but with the requirement that onsite availability may be needed at any time with short notice.

Work authorization is not available for this position.
