The EHS Specialist is part of EHS and is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, and monitoring of the CLE site in Xellia. This position will be responsible for ensuring that the facility has implemented the required elements of our EHS programs and Accident and Incident Prevention Plan. This position will also identify additional opportunities within the facilities for safety improvements and work with the management group to develop the appropriate control mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works regularly with information which is considered restricted and would have impact if disclosed. This includes audit findings, accident and health related data (HIPPA), and Industrial Hygiene monitoring results. Makes recommendations to address improvements in managing EHS risk and is required to elicit cooperation of others through contacts between departments. Has regular contact with individuals internally and externally, such as outside EHS customer or regulatory audits.
  • Coordinates the management of the following policies including implementing and revising written programs: The Hazard Identification and Accident/Incident Prevention Plan, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, and Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Confined Space Entry, Digging and Excavation, Emergency Response, Contractor Safety, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, and CPR and First Aid.
  • Manages and administers the Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and Personal Protective Equipment programs and the SDS database and chemical inventory.
  • Coordinates environmental programs including the Indirect Discharge Permit, SPCC, storm water permitting, air permitting, waste minimization and management programs and refrigerant management.
  • Manages the processing of Hazardous, Non-Hazardous waste for disposal including rejected drug vials, tailings, returned goods, used chemical containers, and other pharmaceutical wastes. Insures the proper transportation, labeling, documentation, inventory, and manifesting for all wastes shipped offsite.
  • Performs Industrial Hygiene assessments of the work environment reviewing exposure to physical and chemical hazards. Interprets and reports the results of IH monitoring to employees and management, prepares reports and recommendations to management for improvement or risk minimization.
  • Coordinates and conducts various safety/health inspections and program audits. Responsibilities include following up on corrective actions arising from these assessment/reviews. Conducts accident investigations and keeps documentation and follow up on action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Develops and conducts the New Employee Safety Orientation Modules and other various EHS monthly training.

Requirements

  • Requires a B.S. Degree in an Environmental, Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene discipline or an Associate's degree with five years of experience.
  • Candidate must have strong math, chemistry and biology comprehension and must possess strong written and oral communication skills and organizational abilities.
  • Pharmaceutical experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements of the role

Works regularly under desirable conditions of the office setting but has occasional exposure to moderately disagreeable features of noise, heat or production conditions. Occasionally requiring lifting and carrying less than 10 lbs, standing, walking, bending over, and repetitive use of legs are done occasionally.
