Description:
*Hybrid remote/in-person working model available upon full completion of department on-boarding*
The Dosimetrist, under the supervision of the Chief Dosimetrist:
-Practices external beam treatment planning
-Participates in department QA processes, including daily contour rounds
-Collaborates with multi-disciplinary radiation oncology colleagues to ensure safe and efficient delivery of care
Assist in dose calculations using scientific calculator; enters results in patient's radiotherapy chart; prepares chart for treatment. Reviews and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations performed by others (Physicist and Physicians) and participates in weekly review of chart dose summations.
For difficult or non-routine cases, assist radiation therapists with tumor localizations and treatments simulations using either a radiotherapy simulator and prior diagnostic information simulation films. This includes source localization for brachytherapy.
Works with the radiation therapist in the implementation of treatment plan (correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment parameters.
Performs various quality assurance activities and maintains related documentation as defined by the department Quality Assurance Committee.
Performs various quality assurance activities and maintains related documentation as defined by the department Quality Assurance Committee. Performs computer quality assurance ie. reviewing data used in planning computer to ascertain accuracy of computer calculation and data entry.
Teaches applied aspects of dosimetry to radiation therapy students and other students rotating through the department. Assist in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
Assist with radiation protection program.
Participates in intracavitary and interstitial sealed source procedure (manual and remote) and in the subsequent manual and orcomputer calculation of the dose distribution of these procedures. Ensure a safe working environment around patients.
Following the dose prescription specified by the radiation oncologist, plans a treatment technique and isodose distribution by means of computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume. Methods of planning include both conventional and 3D coplanar and non-plananr beams. Task consist of defining treatment objectives , identifying patient anatomic and physical limitations. By performing beam computations an analysis of numerous methods of treatment is obtained. Planning may include both manual and remote after loaded brachytherapy (treatment with radioactive sources) in addition to external beam planning.
