As our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts continue to remain a corporate blue chip, or highest priority, at Commerce Bank, we are excited to bring a DEI Intern into our team for the summer 2023 internship program. The DEI Intern will work with the DEI and Talent Management teams and business partners to provide project support, lead assigned projects with leadership oversight, support employee resource groups (ERGs), and drive positive change for a national organization of 4,000+ team members.

Essential Functions

  • Complete a summer-long project related to DEI that will improve Commerce practices. Present findings to the DEI team.
  • Research DEI culture and employee engagement trends, best practices, and external benchmarks and prepare recommendations based on findings.
  • Explore and provide recommendations on tools that could better embed DEI into the organizations.
  • Assist with DEI communications, including content creation for internal and external communications, development of training support materials, presentations and maintenance to DEI internal shared sites.
  • Provide administrative and operations support for the ERGs, including support of ERG leaders, coordination of events and initiatives, and contributing to the development of key processes and tools.
  • Collaborate with the DEI and Talent Management teams on the development and coordination of programs, events and initiatives across the organization.
  • Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders to deliver on DEI projects.
  • Provide support to DEI liaisons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Schedule
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Mostly remote (hybrid)
  • In office 1-3 days/week, as necessary for team meetings, events, etc.
  • Optional travel opportunities may be available.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Passion to create impact and lasting change in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
  • Critical thinking and ability to research best practices, industry trends, and assess internal factors to make data-informed recommendations
  • High level of personal accountability and integrity
  • Committed to listening to understand, solving problems, and continuous learning
  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams, Word)

Education & Experience
  • 1+ years' experience in diversity and inclusion programs, student resource group/club leadership, community impact work, or program management preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in diversity studies, human resources, sociology, psychology, business, communications or a related field.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.
