Job Description Summary:
The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) is an accredited post-secondary educational institution training Medical Assistants (MAs) to effectively participate in high-functioning, team-based primary care settings. NIMAA provides students an effective and low-cost educational program that prepares them for entry into a career in primary health care, and meets the workforce needs of advanced primary care providers. NIMAA is part of the Weitzman Institute, the only research and education center within a Federally Qualified Health Center. Its mission is to promote effective, efficient and equitable primary care for vulnerable and underserved populations. It does this through research, training, consulting and education that reach all 50 states and U.S. territories.

Job Description:

NIMAA is an affiliate of the Weitzman Institute, a premier research institute focused on improving health care and health outcomes for special and vulnerable populations. NIMAA is an accredited post-secondary school that offers Medical Assistant (MA) training across the country.

Our goal is to prepare MAs to participate effectively in high-functioning, team-based primary care settings. NIMAA provides students an effective and low-cost educational program that prepares them to enter the health care field. care. NIMAA's distance education (online) learning program is offered in multiple states and we partner with primary care clinics for in-clinic externship experience during the 8-month training program.

JOB SUMMARY

The distance education manager is responsible for providing team guidance and support as related to the delivery of distance education for the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement. This position provides instructional design and technical support for NIMAA's MA training program, and development and implementation of the UpSkill NIMAA continuing education program courses. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring continued compliance with state departments of education throughout the United States, as well as Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) standards for the continued evaluation and delivery of the distance curriculum delivery.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise with Subject Matter Experts/UpSkillMA Team in the design and development of continuing education courses
  • Design and, in coordination with subject matter experts, develop content in the LMS
  • Collaborate in the evaluation of the delivery of NIMAA's 29-week Medical Assistant training program as required by ABHES standards and work with the Associate Director of Education and Director of Curriculum on the implementation of suggestions/revisions, including:
    • The distance education techniques utilized in the program
    • The criteria and methodology used to assess instructors in the delivery of distance education.
  • Ensure continued compliance with the Colorado Department of Education Division of Private Occupational Schools, to ensure ongoing filing of applications (renewal, sales agents, changes, etc.), quarterly assessment payments, annual data reporting, and other state department of education related matters.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to staff responsible for filing and maintaining out of state approvals (and related documentation) for the delivery of NIMAA's 29-week program and UpSkill NIMAA programs
    • Coordinate the maintenance of NIMAA's critical documents, working closely with staff members responsible for ongoing revisions and update
  • Work in conjunction with the institutional effectiveness team in the development and implementation of ABHES standards, including but not limited to, drafting of Self-Evaluation Reports, Programmatic Effectiveness Plans, Annual Report filing, and overall continued program delivery evaluation
  • Collaborate with the Director of Business and Partnership Development in the launch of UpSkillMA courses, including ensuring timely availability of course content, user-enrollment/tracking, and continued course-monitoring
  • Provide technical support to UpSkill NIMAA team and participants
  • Liaise with LIRN on the maintenance of NIMAA's online library holdings
  • Any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Design, Technology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Master's Degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the delivery of distance education
  • Experience providing learning management system technical support
  • Experience designing and developing online courses
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Student Information Systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) , preferably Moodle.
  • Skill in production and/or acquisition of instructional materials including graphics and interactive media elements
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills in Learning Management System environments
  • Proficiency in the use of business software, including Office365 strongly

Highly Desired Skills, Experience and Education
  • Experience working with state regulatory bodies in obtaining and maintaining approvals for the delivery of distance education
  • Knowledgeable of state regulatory processes affecting the delivery of distance education
  • Experience working with ABHES accreditation standards
  • Experience working with allied health programs, particularly Medical Assistant program curriculum
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning theories and their applications in the delivery of distance education
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices for the development of learning content in an online environment
  • Familiarity with team-based health care concepts and their application
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented and individual context, as required by specific work demands
  • Ability to work with production schedules, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Strong ability to communicate online using e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing, and other technology based on communication media
