As Director - Quality & Reliability you will lead and direct efforts in reducing the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and improving finished goods and component quality and reliability. Lead application and drive the continuous improvement in data analysis to effectively support COPQ reduction and NPI product releases at the highest cost-effective reliability level possible.

Reporting to the Director Engineering, this position is based at Welbilt's facility in Manitowoc, WI*, supporting the Manitowoc Ice brand.

Major Accountability:

  • Leadership of Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction efforts in the Equipment Issue Management (EIM) process by cross functionally driving improvements in Dead on Install (DOI), Warranty Expense and Repair or Rework of finished goods to reach assigned metrics.
  • Leadership of the Design for Reliability (DfR) program as it applies to New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and major COPQ projects to reach overall project metrics.
  • Champion the use of quality tools and warranty analytics to improve component level and finished goods quality & reliability.
  • Drive improvements in internal and external processes to improve component and finished goods level quality and reliability.

Key Task & Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor direct reports, engineers, and operations team members in definition and resolution of quality, reliability and process related issues that impact finished goods COPQ with defined 8D or structured problem-solving methodology
  • Lead and mentor direct reports, engineers, and operations team members on the application of SAS, Minitab and other Quality or Reliability software to further team wide skills in analytics leading to issue resolution.
  • Lead weekly EIM Meetings & COPQ Reduction Reviews that drive awareness and resolution of issues that drive COPQ expense.
  • Lead and mentor direct reports and engineers in releasing NPI projects that meet or exceed NPI Stage Gate 2 agreed upon reliability and SCR targets using Design for Reliability (DfR) tools.
  • Lead or perform analysis of service and sales returns for quality or reliability improvements leading to a reduction in concession or warranty expense.
  • Act as initial point of contact for field liability and litigation claims.
  • Act as lead for supplier remuneration for Product Engineering

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior experience in mechanical/electrical engineering or quality control required, reliability engineering preferred.
  • SAS Admin and application capabilities desired
  • Minitab experience
  • ReliaSoft Suite Experience desired
  • 8D Problem Solving Methodology Codes and regulations
  • Understanding of general or basic quality tools and techniques
  • Six Sigma Certification or training desired
  • Basic Project Management applied to root cause analysis & corrective action implementation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills - teamwork orientation
  • Travel requirement is 10 %
