About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Director of Student-Athlete Success supports the overall operations of the Department of Student-Athlete Success (DSAS). The DSAS houses student centered programming and efforts such as Life After Ball, Community Service, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Affinity Groups, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, and NIL Education. In addition, this department coordinates major events such as the annual Pony Awards and Welcome Back Events, Graduation Celebrations, and New Student-Athlete Orientations.

This position touches all facets of the department with specific oversight of the SAAC group and Community Service.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the official adivsor of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Facilitate initiatives and meetings, primary day to day contact, oversight of Bylaws.

  • Coordinator for all student-athlete and team Community Service activity. Maintain relationships with current partners, build strategic partnerships. Contact for all incoming service requests. Manage Helper Helper platform and overall day to day activity in this area. Serve on various Community Service committees in both athletics and the university.

  • Oversight and/or assistance with departmental events.

  • Serve as contact for conference initiatives involving SAAC and student-athlete engagement.

  • Assist, as needed, with Life After Ball; events, career preparation assistance. Primary contact for SMU Toastmasters partnership.

  • Assist with various departmental duties and events including but not limited to NIL Education efforts, Teamworks roster management, and New Student-Athlete Orientation.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Master's degree required. Degree in Higher Education, Sports Management, Psychology, or Counseling desired.

A minimum of one year of work experience is required. Previous experience working directly with student-athletes is also required. Previous experience with SAAC desired. Previous experience working directly with coaches is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, especially student athletes. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. Strong presentation and public speaking skills are essential.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. The ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities and needs is essential. The ability to work in fast pace environment and display a sense of urgency is essential.

Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of MS Suite. Experience using Teamworks is preferred
