The individual in this position should be available outside of normal work hours to assist in emergency events. As a result, it is expected to be reachable, within reason, via mobile device.

Basic Function:

The Director of Project and Portfolio Management reports to Denison's Vice President and Chief Information Officer and plays a crucial role in supporting technology initiatives across the university. Responsible for advancing IT goals in support of Denison's Strategic Plan, this role will build and lead portfolio and project management for Denison's Information Technology team in support of the university's Strategic Plan. The role will ensure the success of our initiatives, foster a culture of innovation and excellence, build relationships across the community, and support a vibrant, fun, and growth-oriented team.

The Director will: design and implement processes to manage projects across Denison's enterprise and academic technology, cybersecurity, and client experience portfolios; oversee project and change management for Denison's ERP transition; oversee IT budgets; coordinate annual goal planning processes; analyze and share data insights; report on the impact of key initiatives; promote a positive culture; and celebrate success.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Portfolio & Project Management: Develop processes to prioritize and manage ITS' portfolio of strategic and operational work, oversee project managers, ensure resource allocation and successful project execution, track progress, and facilitate collaboration across teams.
  • Change Management: Oversee project and change management efforts for the transition of Denison's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Work with external consultants and divisions across Denison to support a positive, collaborative and sustainable model for ERP transition.
  • Budget Oversight: Oversee the departmental budget and collaborate with finance and procurement teams as necessary. Supervise ITS Finance & Contracts Specialist, who manages the division's budget, contracts, and fiscal reporting.
  • Organizational Leadership: Implement strategies to deepen collaboration and information sharing among team members and stakeholders. Enhance skills for project management and reporting at all levels of the organization. In partnership with Denison HR, coordinate hiring, onboarding, and performance management within ITS. Promote a transparent, inclusive, growth-oriented culture.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data about IT initiatives and report on outcomes. Communicate relevant data and insights to the CIO, university leadership, and trustees to support strategic decision-making.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of experience in strategic or administrative leadership or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Demonstrated success in portfolio and project management.
  • Financial management experience and budget oversight.
  • Strategic thinking, ability to translate objectives into actionable plans and reduce complexity to simplicity.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to analyze data and articulate insights.
  • Excellent organizational skills, capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively, strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to think creatively, solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong capacity to make informed decisions in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated leader who enjoys building alignment and commitment to collaboration among diverse units towards a shared goal.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Preferred
