Responsibilities:

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Director of Financial Aid reports to the Dean of Student Services. The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and supervision of the Financial Aid Office including the administration of all financial aid and veterans' programs. The Director will provide vision and direction for the administrative and operational activities of a forward-facing Student Service-Oriented Financial Aid office and participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives.This position is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares and submits all necessary federal, state, city and institutional reporting for financial aid and veteran's administration required meeting all deadlines.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the College's Application to Participate in the Federal Student Aid Programs.
  • Responsible for submitting the intent to participate in state financial aid programs.
  • Lead the administration, organization, and operation of college financial aid programs within a broad framework of policies, procedures, laws, regulations, strategic objectives, and the college's mission.
  • Monitor proposed and enacted changes in laws, regulations, and best practices impacting financial aid programs and ensure continued compliance; develop and propose strategic objectives to maximize financial aid awards for all students.
  • Develops and monitors the Financial Aid Office fiscal year budget including personnel needs, departmental operating expenses, and travel expenses.
  • Develops and reports the annual student costs of attendance budgets to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • Responsible for the installation, setup, updating and integrity of the financial aid electronic systems (EDE). Oversight of Financial Aid Management in BANNER Student Information System and automation of packaging philosophies (testing new upgrades and writing report programs) Responsible for Pell Grant and Direct Loan reporting.
  • Develops and monitors all institutional packaging and financial aid policies.
  • Monitors institutional compliance with all aid delivery and student consumer information for federal, state and internal financial aid regulators (including internal audits within the department).
  • Serves as the compliance officer in monitoring and administering all Title IV aid programs in compliance with federal regulations. Amends procedures, forms and requirements as necessary in response to letters, guidance, and other notifications from federal, state, commission, and institutional agencies.
  • Establishes strategies for the effective and efficient delivery of financial aid awards to students that maximizes retention and recruiting goals.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the Lamar State College Orange Foundation and attends meetings when necessary.
  • Supervises and organizes the work of the Financial Aid office staff in accomplishing the goals of the Financial Aid office. Evaluates staff and makes recommendations for department staffing needs.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Counsels students and parents, performs need analysis as needed.
  • Calculates returns and repayments for students who withdraw from school or fail to attend.
  • Develops and review all marketing including print, electronic and web-based materials related to financial aid.
  • Serves as lead contact for Financial Aid Department related to SACSCOC Accreditation.
  • Represent Financial Aid on campus committees, as required.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Office of Financial Aid by performing all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTSEducationGraduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in a related discipline is preferred.ExperienceRequires two to four years' experience in all aspects of college student financial aid administration, or similar jobs.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge and management with all aspects of financial aid operation. Knowledge of computerized electronic processes in the delivery of financial aid and veteran's administration educational programs (i.e. EDconnect, TDClient, EDExpress, Enrollment Manager).
  • Experience with automated systems related to financial aid management (BANNER preferred).
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial assistance and veteran's administration educational programs.
  • Experience with and the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, auditors, high school counselors, employees, college administrators and other constituents is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
  • Individual must have strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills. Experience working collaboratively across departments within the college to implement change and solve problems.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and manage projects and assignments. Ability to promote a positive campus image, to establish effective working relationships with others, and to follow established college policies and procedures.
  • Lamar State College Orange utilizes multiple parts of term to provide flexibility and access to financial aid and scholarships for our students, experience working with 16-week, 8-week and 5-week terms is preferred.
  • Contribute to student satisfaction through delivery of quality customer service in all aspects of the administration of financial aid is crucial.
