Position Summary:
The Director for the Center for Disability Access and Resources (CDAR) has responsibility for compliance with a broad range of state and federal disability laws and regulations, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA) and the Fair Housing Act. The Director provides leadership to the University of Idaho in maintaining compliance with these federal and state disability laws and regulations by coordinating and providing access for students with disabilities to all programs and services of the university. The Director provides administrative oversight for all disability accommodations and services for students; hires, trains and supervises CDAR employees; and educates, assists, and provides guidance to the campus community on disability accessibility. In addition, the Director has responsibility for accommodation requests by members of the community, including University of Idaho faculty and staff, when they are attending campus programs, services and activities as well as state-wide programs and activities that are sponsored by the University of Idaho. The Director provides leadership to and has administrative responsibility for the Raven Scholars program, a supportive transition program for neurodiverse students. The Director reports to the Executive Director of Counseling, Access and Testing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Special Education, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field
  • Three years of post-graduate professional experience coordinating services to individuals with disabilities
  • Planning and developing program goals and objectives
  • Applying budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints
  • Delivering effective presentations to large and small audiences
  • Working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Creating, composing, and editing written and electronic material with attention to detail
  • Multi-tasking and efficiently managing multiple communications via phone, email, online chat, and in-person
  • Task management
  • Conflict resolution and mediation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Coordinating services to students with disabilities in a post-secondary setting
  • Supervising professional employees for three years
  • Interpreting Americans with Disabilities ACT, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for accommodation determination in the post-secondary environment
  • Collaborating with university faculty members to ensure students are afforded approved accommodations

Knowledge of:
  • Legal and ethical considerations for disability accommodations processes in higher education settings
  • Assistive technologies and accommodations utilized by students in higher education
  • Disability service organizations in Idaho and national associations for disability professions
Ability to:
  • Analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • Maintain and enforce strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of scenarios including oral presentations, face to face consultation, group meetings, tabling events, phone calls, print and electronic communications.

  • Eligible for membership in professional associations including but not limited to: Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), Idaho Partnerships in Higher Education on Disability (IPHED), Learning Disabilities Association of America, Access Technology Higher Education Network (ATHEN), Think College, and NASPA Disability Knowledge Community.
