Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and General Counsel, the Director of Board and Community Engagement will promote Marian University's Catholic Franciscan Mission & Identity by coordinating the strong engagement of volunteers who are members of the Board of Trustees, boards of visitors, advisory boards, task forces and other groups as well as other external volunteers for events, service activities etc.

The Director of Board and Community Engagement is a self-starter with exceptional relational skills. The Director needs to be detail-oriented and have a service mindset. This person must have the ability to represent Marian University in a positive and professional way to diverse populations, and to ensure that their engagement with Marian University is meaningful and impactful for them and for the university. This person will engage with various community constituents, including neighborhood residents, city and state officials and leaders of other institutions and businesses in central Indiana. Additionally, this person will collaborate with professionals in various divisions across campus such as the Mission and Ministry, Enrollment, Marketing Communications, Institutional Advancement and Alumni Engagement, and Conference and Events. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan Intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.Maximizes the positive experience of volunteers with the university, especially trustees and members of boards of visitors and advisory boards; Coordinates meeting schedules, attendance, agendas, minutes/notes and action items for all meetings of Marian University boards in collaboration with the President, Deans, program directors and other subject matter experts;Coordinate with the Office of Conference and Events to organize meetings of all Marian University boards to ensure a high-quality, professional experience for the volunteers; Organizes the process for selection, evaluation and nomination of volunteers serving on Marian University boards; coordinates all orientation activities and annual performance assessments;Manages requests for information, tickets, accommodations and assistance from all volunteers serving on Marian University boardsCollaborates with the Sr. Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and General Counsel to deepen the university's engagement with the community, especially residents and anchor institutions in the Near Northwest Area and to regularly cultivate and engage community, business and governmental leaders in the life of the university;Cultivate, coordinate and execute activities for external and internal volunteers, including but not limited to Indy DO day and Knights Called to Serve, Commencement, and the Marian University Gala; Designs and implements stewardship and appreciation activities for all volunteers serving on Marian University boards to ensure their experience is a rich and rewarding one; Maintains records of all meetings and activities of Marian University boards and records about all volunteers including board terms, biographies, awards and recognitions, community involvement, etc. Participate in the meetings of all Marian University boards as necessary; Assist with the development of plans and proposals for community development projects with the City and residents and anchor institutions in the Near Northwest Area; Additional responsibilities as assigned by Sr. Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and General CounselRequired Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors' degree and at least 5 years' experience in the higher education, non-profit or corporate sector.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience with boards and community engagement.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills are required.
