Job Summary

Creates, coordinates, facilitates and leads professional development opportunities for CAC instruction across the District; serves as a lead to support the continuous improvement of faculty at CAC; creates professional development opportunities (including learning communities, workshops, and seminars) in different modalities to enhance student learning and instructional delivery; plays a critical roles in the designing, implementing, and programming for instruction including online/virtual courses; develops strategies, services, and support for faculty to enhance teaching practices for student success; and facilitates collaborative initiatives with academic and support units across the campus to foster practices in teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates professional development (PD) opportunities (including learning communities, workshops and seminars) in different modalities to enhance student learning and instructional delivery; creates courses, documents, media, assignments, handouts, rubrics, etc. to be used online and in the classroom; and works with faculty members to co-create PD opportunities.
  • Promotes and advertises professional development opportunities from other campus programs and initiatives (Information Technology, Achieving the Dream/Grants initiatives, etc.)
  • Facilitates faculty to faculty communication concerning best practices.
  • Works with faculty to promote culturally responsive teaching; explores ways to better infuse diversity into the curriculum/classroom.
  • Develops and implements the creation and revision of instruction and orientation materials for new departmental chairs and directors, full-time faculty, adjunct or part-time faculty, instructional specialists, and other instructional personnel.
  • Provides input into budget development; oversees expenditures; ensures appropriate use of allocated resources; and manages faculty development travel and professional development funds.
  • Assists with the development of All College and Faculty Development Day activities; coordinates training facilities, equipment, and supporting materials.
  • Provides assistance to faculty to improvement of teaching across the District including individual assistance as needed.
  • Leads creation and leadership for faculty programming which may include faculty mentoring, new faculty experience, training in instructional design, support, training and providing regular updates relevant to faculty use of the LMS and other College technologies.
  • Conducts research; subscribes to related higher education services, websites, and consortiums; establishes working relationships with other colleges to discuss their programs; and leads in providing faculty with up-to-date information and training about philosophies, trends in higher education teaching and learning, and ways to improve student retention and success.
  • Works with Faculty Senate to determine direction and programming for faculty teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates with Faculty Senate and the Academic Division to facilitate District teaching awards/programs.
  • Conducts short-term and long-range strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation for faculty teaching and learning including unit assessment plans to ensure alignment with the College's strategic plan.
  • Collaborates with the IT Department and Blackboard Support to assist faculty with incorporating technology to enhance teaching and student learning; researches and tests current classroom technology and software.
  • Performs other duties commensurate with functions and level of position or as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree.

    EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and experience in faculty training and development.

    SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: Must be able to function as an Instructional Designer to educate faculty on current and emerging instructional technology and modalities. Depending on the needs of the institution, this position may be required to teach one class per year as part of the base assignment. Some District travel is expected.

Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification.   • Knowledge of training and development principles.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning.
  • Skill in gathering, compiling, and presenting information in both oral and/or written formats.
  • Skill in developing and implementing strategic plans for teaching and learning that not only reflect partnerships with faculty, students, and staff but positions CAC as a leader among Arizona community colleges in areas of innovative pedagogy and inclusive curriculum.
  • Skill in communicating and interacting with staff, leadership, faculty, students and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively a diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of team.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty at all levels, all levels of Academic Affairs, IT, and Blackboard Support to plan and access services and development opportunities in the areas of teaching and learning.
