Position Summary

All activities associated with direct labor in the foundry in support of Molder, Melter, Core Maker, and Grinder. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

Tasks:

  • Tasks are dependent on the department assigned.
  • Prepare work materials, ready work area in support of other Foundry positions.
  • Operate industrial trucks such as fork lifts and cranes as required.
  • May train new employees.
Follow relevant work instructions and/or SOP.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Multitasking- Ability to move from task to task while maintaining concentration amid distraction.
  • Operation Monitoring- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Monitoring- Monitoring/Assessing performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Operation and Control- Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Deductive Reasoning- The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Quality Control Analysis- Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Problem Sensitivity- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Teamwork- Coordinating efforts and supporting coworkers to produce the best outcome.
  • Flexibility/Adaptability- Ability to adjust to new conditions and respond effectively to changing environments.

Physical Abilities:
  • Multilimb Coordination- The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Manual Dexterity- The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Control Precision- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Near Vision- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Finger Dexterity- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Trunk Strength- The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • Reaction Time- The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
  • Ability to perceive and interpret information through the senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch at a level considered normal for a healthy adult. Must exhibit good balance.
  • Maximum lifting requirement is 50 lbs.; any material of greater weight must be moved using machinery or team lifts.

Working Conditions:
  • Must wear required safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, respirator (facial hair cannot interfere with fit of respirator).
  • Exposure to hot, cold, and/or damp weather.
  • Exposure to dusts, fumes, metal chips, and odors from an industrial environment.

Supervision:

This position does not supervise others.

May give direction or relay information from the supervisor to co-workers. May coordinate across work stations to implement changeover.

During initial training, the incumbent will require close supervision, with supervisor contact several times per day. After demonstration of sustained full comprehension of work instructions, safety procedures, and general department knowledge, daily contact with supervision may reduce to once or twice per day.
Position Requirements

Technology Skills:
  • Uses the appropriate electronic or manual system to perform the work of the job or department. Use computer system to search for and retrieve data.
  • May use computer systems to enroll in benefits and interact with other company data systems.*

Knowledge:
  • Reading, writing, speaking, comprehension and computer skills in the English language, typically developed through high school education or equivalent, with the ability to communicate effectively via all these modes.*
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Mathematics- Knowledge of basic arithmetic; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Must be able to comprehend the meaning of the calculation.
  • Mechanical- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Training, Certificates or Licenses:
  • See ISO Skill review.

For External Recruiting:

Education Required:
  • Equivalent to high school education, 2-3 years trades training preferred.
Experience Required:
  • 6 plus months experience in construction or other physically demanding work.
  • Preferred experience as a team leader.
