Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

The Director of General Accounting oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions of the University. Responsible for ensuring all financial reports are prepared accurately and in compliance with all local, state and federal financial policies and regulations. Provides leadership and direction to the accounting department in an effort to establish accounting best practices and maintain a system of internal controls that will ensure institutional assets are adequately safeguarded.

Essential Duties Summary:

*Manages the day-to-day accounting functions for the University which include: chart of accounts maintenance, property accounting, state accounting, general ledger, bank account, cash control operations, and account reconciliations
*Assures proper application of GAAP standards and accuracy of financial data and related analysis
*Maintains and coordinates the maintenance, training, oversight, and security of the Banner Finance system
*Directs, reviews, and assists in the timely preparation of monthly financials, Annual Audit Reports, Year End Close processes and ensures deadlines are met in accordance with state guidelines
*Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions
*Coordinates all internal and external audits
*Provides supervision, direction, and evaluation of accounting staff
*Reviews and approves departmental journal entries and account analysis
*Performs analysis review of transactions, reports and assigned tasks for compliance and comparable data
*Responsible for maintaining and updating University accounting MAPP Policies such that internal controls remain intact
*Enhances and/or develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures by way of systems and processes that will improve overall operations, efficiency, and effectiveness.
*Serves as the backup System Administrator
*Serves on committees, and task forces to represent the Finance area
*Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Hiring Range:

$97,093.00 - $121,367.00

Education:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) with a major in Accounting

Preferred:
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business

Required Licensing/Certification:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), the designation must be current preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

*Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements and standards
*Policies, procedures, and practices in Higher Education
*Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications, and ERP systems (Banner by Ellucian)

Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible accounting experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in fiscal affairs in Higher Education
At least 3 years of supervisory experience
Extensive knowledge, training, and experience in accounting standards and regulations
Experience with State of Texas Accounting System (USAS) preferred
Advanced knowledge in preparing financial statements within a College or University with complex systems
