Position Summary
Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The Design Director responsibilities will include the following:

  • Serve as primary designer and point of contact for day-to-day execution of brand standards across all design, marketing, and communications functions and across multiple platforms and media, including print, signage, promotional, and digital output.
  • Conceptualize and develop a high volume of design pieces (print and digital) for the full variety of the College's audiences, including prospective students/families, alumni and families, donors, the campus community, and the broader public; these would include, but not be limited to, recruitment marketing materials (view books, travel pieces, email campaigns, etc.), advancement materials (fundraising campaigns, e-newsletters, Reunion and Homecoming materials, and design support for high-level institutional events), and major college events such as Commencement and Presidential events.
  • Hire and direct freelance photographers; works efficiencies of workflow and improving the review and approval process.
  • Advise campus clients and provide design solutions to meet their strategic goals ensuring alignment of branding and identity.
  • Manage print production for campus clients, making recommendations on vendors based on cost, quality, and ability to meet client needs and ensuring the delivery of high-quality finished pieces; track and maintain project budgets and build/manage relationships with vendors.
  • Employ creative, cost-effective strategies to meet the College's high volume of design needs and support campus clients.
  • Serve as Communications liaison with the College's licensing company, ensuring consistency with brand standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years experience Strong print and multimedia design portfolio and demonstrated understanding of the principles of branding and visual identity across platforms Professional experience with the Adobe Suite (i.e., InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop and photo-editing, Illustrator) Experience with environmental graphic design, promotion design, and digital design Experience with project management tool (i.e., Asana) Exceptional communication (written and oral) skills Understanding of email, web and social media design Ability to prioritize work with strong time management skills and the ability to schedule and coordinate work and activities of others Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work well in fast-paced and stressful environments Ability to maintain professional code of ethics Exceptional human relations/customer service skills and the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints Ability to work independently as well as within a team Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Ability to train team members or student employees Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with leadership, faculty, staff and external stakeholders/constituencies
