Job Description:
$3,000 hiring bonus to join the Judicial Branch! The Office of Public Guardian (OPG) is accepting applications for a full-time Deputy Director for the Office of Public Guardian (OPG). The person in this role will assist with the implementation of the State's Public Guardianship Act under the direction of the Director of the Office of Public Guardian. Assists Public Guardian in the development of statewide policies and procedures for assigned area. May assist with maintenance of a uniform system of reporting and collection of statistical data regarding guardianships and conservatorships; maintenance of guidelines for a sliding scale of fees to be charged for public guardian and public conservator services; and promotion of public awareness of the need for private guardians and private conservators. Serves as a resource for current guardians and conservators by providing education, information, and support; participates in legal proceedings; oversees court filings and case progression of matters handled by staff; monitors financial reports; and supervises staff case management and other duties as assigned.

Duties include the following, but specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
•Overseeing the reporting and collection of statistical data regarding guardianships and conservatorships; fees for public guardian and public conservator services.
•Serve as a resource person for current guardians and conservators by providing education, information, and support.
•Participating in strategic planning and special projects impacting department operations and activities; implementing and evaluating projects in accordance with department-wide adopted plans and policies.
•Representing assigned department to the public, other agencies, other governments, committees, and organizations including making presentations, chairing, and participating in meetings, conducting community outreach, and responding to requests for information in collaboration with other Office of Public Guardian staff.
•Participating in legal proceedings for the Office of the Public Guardian as needed and overseeing court filings and case progression of matters handled by staff.
•Monitoring financial reports from Associate Public Guardians.
•Supervising Associate Public Guardians and other staff as assigned.
•Performing other duties of a similar nature or level.

HIRING RATE (during probationary period): $80,170.84 Annually

MINIMUM PERMANENT RATE (after probationary period): $82,175.10 Annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Juris Doctorate; 5 years' experience practicing law and providing legal services; program management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ability to practice law in Nebraska, in accordance with NRS § 30-4104. And knowledge of the Nebraska court system and previous experience working with Nebraska Courts is desired.

  • Systems, services and benefits available to persons served by the Office of Public Guardian and an ability to identify gaps in services, supports and benefits.
