Description
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), a state agency with an annual budget of over $3.5 billion and almost 5000 employees, is searching for a self-motivated, results-driven candidate to serve as the Division of Public Health Deputy Director for Health Promotion and Prevention.

Working in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer/Director of Public Health (CMO), the Public Health Director of Operations, and the Division of Public Health Leadership team, the Deputy Director for Health Promotion and Prevention will provide leadership to align key public health programs within the Lifespan Health, Health Services and Systems, and Health Promotion Units to support meeting and achieving the Directors' vision and priorities.

Strong communication skills as well as a strong background in health service delivery, government operations, policy development, and relationship building are a must. Hiring rate of position: Commensurate with education and experience

Examples of Work
Core tasks performed by this position include:

• Direct supervision of three unit administrators and activities/programs conducted by those units;
• Monitor, review, and provide appropriate level of approval of personnel actions, grants/grant applications, sub awards, contracts, travel requests, time and attendance, payments, and other official actions. Reviews and submits grant proposals as needed. Monitor and review budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility of programs. Participates in management responses to audit findings and disallowances;
• Write, review, edit, and present policies, regulations, and legislation. Represents the department to internal and external stakeholders in legislative matters;
• Advises the Director of Public Health and Public Health Director of Operations while serving as a member of the Division of Public Health Leadership Team;
• Build and manage relationships with key programmatic stakeholders throughout the state to develop and enhance programmatic alignment to support Nebraskans.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: A Master's Degree in public health or related fields such as healthcare administration, public administration, business administration, health related sciences, or law, plus five years of increasingly responsible managerial, administrative and operational experience involving policy development, service delivery or government operations, including supervision and management of professional staff. Relevant experience in lieu of the master's degree will also be considered.

Additionally, the candidate will have:
• Strong management, administration and interpersonal skills.
• Significant experience effectively managing budgets, staff, and operational functions.
• Performance management experience with the proven ability to improve the effectiveness of public health programs, services, and the workforce.
• Superb communication skills, delivering clear and persuasive messages through written and oral presentations.
