Job Description:


Maritime College seeks an experienced and innovative Dean of Student Affairs who will embrace the collegiality of the campus community and collaborate on a variety of campus-wide initiatives designed to foster a vibrant student life experience and support students for their success at Maritime College and beyond. The Dean of Students is responsible for providing innovative direction and overall management for the Student Affairs division. The Dean of Student is a senior-level administrative position reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is ultimately responsible for proving leadership for Student Development (inclusive of Judicial Affairs and Mental Health Services), Student Health Services, Title IX, Community Service/Outreach, Athletics (inclusive of varsity sports, club sports, and physical education), Residence Life, and Career Services. The Dean of Students also works closely with the Regiment of Cadets' staff to ensure holistic programing and support for those students who are in the Regiment and those students who are not.

• Ensure that Student Affairs programs and activities support the mission of Maritime College
• Provide support, guidance and evaluation of all Student Affairs services, programs, procedures and policies
• Responsible for all budgets pertaining to the Student Government Association, as well as state and FSA allocations for student programming
• Devise and implement short- and long-range planning for the unit
• Oversee all assessment activities for the Student Affairs division and associated units
• Represent the Student Affairs division at appropriate college functions and meetings
• Collaborate with colleagues regarding students in distress, both academically and personally
• Appropriately advise the Student Government Association, maintaining responsibility for the overall efficacy of the student clubs and organizations
• Advise the Cabinet on campus-wide issues and concerns, helping to facilitate conversation and projects between students and administration
• Manage the rollout and use of software for case management/compliance/judicial affairs (e.g., Maxient
• Ensure campus-wide compliance regarding federal, state, and SUNY policies/procedures
• Represent SUNY Maritime as the Chief Student Affairs Officer at various SUNY functions and meetings
• Ensure that offices and programs work together cohesively to create a vibrant student life experience and to support students holistically
• Work with academic colleagues on initiatives to help drive retention and student success
• Work with IT to maintain student-information systems and data
• Serves on other committees as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Required Qualifications


• Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in Student Affairs or related work at the college or university level
• Knowledge of the principles of holistic student development with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion
• General knowledge of student mental health and development theories
• Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
• Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions
• Proficiency in utilizing computer and word processing software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications


• Doctorate in related field
• Background in Student Affairs and related assessment a plus

Additional Information:


Classification/Salary Range: This is a full-time calendar year appointment Management/Confidential unclassified position which serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The anticipated salary range for the position is $115,000 to $130,000 annually with an outstanding benefits package (for additional information, please see the Management Confidential Unclassified Benefits Summary. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications to commence immediately and conclude when the position is filled.

Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
