SUMMARY

The Data Scientist - Health Informatics supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Civil Aerospace Medical institute (CAMI) Aerospace Medical Research Division by overseeing and coordinating a program of research and by the development of activities leading to the deployment of an information technology program providing the data environment for the FAA's aeromedical safety management system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Possesses strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

Displays adeptness at queries, report writing and presenting findings.

Demonstrates proficiency with Java, SQL, or other programming languages.

Demonstrates experience or exposure to use of healthcare terminologies (SNOMED CT, CPT-4, ICD- 9-CM, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, APC, LOINC, RxNorm, etc.).

Shows experience in natural language processing, preferred.

Demonstrates experience with data analysis software, electronic health records, and other healthcare platforms, preferred.

Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with external customers and internal team members.

Displays solid problem-solving skills: ability to manage and resolve conflict, communicate issues and propose solutions.

Possesses self-motivation and willingness to take the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance with all applicable rules (federal, state, local, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Prime Contract requirements, etc.) for themselves and the company as a whole. Fosters an environment in which they will reportanyviolations or reasonably suspected violation of CNI policy, FAR, and/or CFR and are comfortable discussing the myriad compliance, conflict, FAR, CFR, etc. issues that arise during the performance of a government contract.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Information Technology, Informatics, or similar discipline required. Master's Degree in Health or Medical Informatics or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in business, analytics, or healthcare. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in creating data models, database design development, data mining and/or data segmentation techniques

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Must be able to obtain government security clearance.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
