We are looking for a Data Center Network Engineer for our corporate wireless team.

Meet our Team:

The Data Center Network and Operations team manages the network interconnectivity across PayPal's global data center and POP locations. The footprint encompasses a 5,300+ device leaf/spine architecture supporting multiple vendors and product lines. This team manages the new deployment of network assets (physical or virtual) into the current infrastructure and then provides an integrated handover to our Global Network Operations team for ongoing monitoring and visibility of the network. This is a great opportunity to get exposure to enterprise interconnectivity around the world.

Your Way to Impact:

You will be responsible for tasks and workflows around designing, supporting, managing, and configuring the data center network. This position requires technical know-how and practical hands-on experience in and around enterprise network design and support. This position will also require the support and understanding of load balancing, firewalls, and networking within Public Cloud environments; thus, a broad range of networking skills are required.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve software, hardware, system, and network issues
  • Design and validate the performance, quality, and reliability of the network
  • Design and implement leaf/spine deployment models
  • Optimize network performance - address network problems and breakdowns, and partner withnetworking vendors to optimize the network
  • Collaborate to ensure topology designs are understood and global configuration models are adhered to
  • Work with security to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards
  • Design and deploy changes to the configurations of network devices as per the applicable change management process.
  • Communicate with and support remote hands employees while troubleshooting or testing physical devices and their connectivity
  • Support the L1 Global Network Operations team and handle any L2+ escalations requiring deep dive analysis
  • Work with vendors on software upgrade paths and complete the upgrades across the global network
  • Interface with, and utilize, monitoring, reporting, and life cycle management platforms to create and modify reports on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • Create, design, and document new implementation solutions
  • Continually prove and improve disaster recovery plans and processes
  • Be part of an on-call rotation, monitor overall network performance, and implement changes when needed

What You Need to Bring:
  • A successful candidate will have at least 4 years of experience working with networking technologies
  • Cisco or Juniper certifications preferred (Associate level or higher)
  • Multi-vendor network experience is required (Arista, Cisco, Juniper preferred)
  • Exposure and understanding of white box networking
  • AWS, Azure, or GCP network-related certifications preferred
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-level routing and switching
  • Demonstrate network engineering proficiencies regarding VxLAN design and network analytics
  • Ability to troubleshoot servers running Linux operating systems
  • A BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is preferred but not required
