The UVA Bookstore is looking for a positive, professional, and energetic customer service representative to fill a Customer Service Lead position. This position will serve as a first point of contact for customers entering the bookstore and will be responsible for providing assistance to customers over the phone and in-person. Work is performed under supervision according to established protocols.

Duties include:

  • Opening and/or closing of the bookstore, as well as supervising temp and student staff.

  • Demonstrating increased customer contact and troubleshooting ability.

  • Greeting and offering exceptional assistance to customers.

  • Demonstrating knowledge of products and their locations in the store.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • At least one year of prior work experience.

  • Must possess strong communication and active listening skills to provide exceptional customer service.

  • High level of computer, phone and register skills which require the ability to multi-task.

  • Knowledge of cash handling and math skills.

  • Demonstrated excellence in decision making.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Applicants must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word.

  • Ability to work weekend shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in a retail environment and/or a bookstore.

Compensation:

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $15.00 - $15.62 per hour ($31,200 - $32,500 per year).

This is a restricted position and continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand for periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
