HIRING SALARY: $38,456.12 - $42,117.14 annually; all salary calculations to start at the minimum salary

HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, may include evenings and weekends.

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Custodial Superintendent position is located on the Florida Public Safety Institute in Quincy, FL., and will report to the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent. Supervises all activities of custodial services on a College-wide basis. TCC's Exposure Control Plan (ECP) governs the College's compliance with OSHA standards and is applicable to all employees who have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The College has identified this position as having occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. At-risk employees, where occupational exposure is reasonably anticipated, will be offered the HBV vaccination at no cost.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly responsible for recruiting, selecting, training, and directing full-time and part-time custodial workers and housekeepers on multiple shifts and across seven days a week for all of the facilities located on the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy (PTLEA) campus. Independently assign staff to respective buildings and provide specific instructions on areas to be properly cleaned and on performance standards associated with each area. Purchase and provide staff with necessary equipment needed to perform their job tasks. Regularly monitor the effectiveness of custodial equipment. Monitor the Academy schedules, using facilities scheduling software and e-mail correspondence to determine dates, times, and location of special Academy functions requiring custodial support.

  • Work directly for the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent of PTLEA to ensure that all facilities are properly cleaned and sanitized. Interact with students, agency customers, faculty, and staff to receive feedback on their experience at PTLEA to identify potential areas of improvement. Responsible for all facility set ups and resets for all classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, and meeting rooms for staff and customers. Responsible for all aspects of custodial and housekeeping services for the PTLEA's two on-site housing facilities that include a 32-room, 64-bed residential facility and a 200-room, 270-bed facility that includes operating a commercial laundry. This responsibility includes the ordering of all linens and janitorial supplies and properly assigning adequate staff to perform these duties. Assign work orders, maintain and approve leave records; keep inventory of equipment and supplies; and request purchase orders.

  • Conduct on the job training for new employees; develop a refresher training plan, which includes demonstrations of proper use of chemicals and equipment. Provide training to staff to ensure that appropriate OSHA guidelines are followed by all custodial workers.

  • Communicate effectively with Supervisor and employees on 2-way Radio.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma and five years of custodial supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: TCC maintenance, operation and safety procedures; of organization and department; basic record keeping; maintenance, operation & operating procedures for all facilities equipment on campus; general knowledge of procedures necessary to issue supplies for department and keep accurate inventory records; general knowledge of steps necessary to process work orders to completion. Ability to communicate effectively verbally & in writing; make independent judgments; plan, organize & coordinate work assignments; walk, climb ladders, bend, lift 75 lbs. or more; train & motivate workers; use IBM PC computer & related software; work well with all levels of administration, faculty, staff, and students; coordinate & supervise many jobs simultaneously; know & enforce the college personnel rules & regulations; read and understand blueprints, work with architects and engineers on renovations and new construction; fill in for Plant Operations Specialist during absences; understand and apply local, state, and federal codes and regulations such as 6A-2, OSHA, ADA, NFPA, etc.
