Culinary Institute of America Externship - Bear Mountain Hospitality

The Bear Mountain Inn at Bear Mountain State Park currently features the Bear Mountain Inn with 15 guest rooms, Overlook Lodge with 24 guest rooms, and 4 stone cottages along the Hessian Lake which each have 6 guest suites and lakefront patios. In addition to guest rooms, Bear Mountain Inn is a full-service property and resort with a restaurant, bar, café, gift shop, concession stand and recreation activities including boating. At Bear Mountain Inn, we have 20,000 square feet of banquet space hosting beautiful and exquisite weddings and events.

Interns in hospitality will be able to learn many aspects of the dynamic property such as front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, finance, and food & beverage.

Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, strong desire to learn and adapt, multi-tasking and possess a professional attitude. Candidate must have a guest-centric mindset and willing to assist guests and colleagues in all fashions.

14 Week Curriculum

  • 4 Weeks- Front Desk: Students will gain experience in many tasks including, but not limited to:
    • Greet and welcome guests
    • Meet the needs of a diverse customer base and solve problems that might arise during their stay
    • Receive calls and forward messages
    • Create and maintain reservations from phone calls, online, and walk in customers
    • General administrative functions of the property
  • 4 Weeks-Housekeeping: Students will gain experience in many tasks including, but not limited to:
    • Perform various cleaning activities
    • Check for any inadequacies in facilities or amenities
    • Ensure room hygiene is up to standard
    • Restock depleted supplies
    • Handle customer requests and complaints
  • 2 Weeks-Food and Beverage: Students will gain experience in many tasks including, but not limited to:
    • Prepare food
    • Ensure kitchen hygiene is up to standard
    • Work with Chef(s) to come up with ideas for new dishes
    • Work with a team in a restaurant setting as well as a catered event setting
  • 2 Weeks- Finance/ Administration: Students will gain experience in many tasks including, but not limited to:
    • Help in overseeing daily hotel operations
    • Take part in deciding pricing and offered services
    • Handle customer complaints and feedback
    • Assist during training for personnel
  • Regular 1-on-1 sessions with General Manager
  • Uniform Requirements: uniform shirts will be provided to hospitality externs.
  • Schedule: Externs can expect to work 40 hours per week during their externship. Shift days/times will vary based on the needs of the business.

Pay is $14/hour
