Cost Estimator

The Select Group is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator with a background in civil, power, water, or sewer to join one of our global clients. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of various commercial construction, providing insights into cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring that projects are completed within budgetary constraints.

Cost Estimator Qualifications

• College degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related technical field, and/or field-related experience is strongly preferred
• 3-5 years of demonstrated estimating experience including time spent in mission-critical, data center, industrial or life science sectors.
• Proven experience in material take-off, bottom-up estimating, and cost analysis
• Previous work experience with a General Contractor in the US
• Demonstrated experience of developing estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
• Confident reviewing General Construction Subcontractor Estimator and General construction packages
• Excellent communicator and thrives in a client facing role.
• Technical knowledge of construction industry matters, such as value management and value engineering.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with ability to adapt messaging to suit the recipients.

Cost Estimator Responsibilities:

• Provide expert estimating services for hyperscale data center infrastructure (civil/power/water/sewer) from RFP. through to construction completion, managing key relationships with the client, general contractor, and project team.
• Develop Project Capital Estimates using a bottoms-up approach.
• Lead the training of templates & tools for the general contractor to ensure submissions are compliant for commercial analysis.
• Lead the commercial review of the competitive bid process for major trades.
• Support the project delivery team with post-contract cost analysis & change order reviews.
• Benchmarking integration to ensure accurate data capture.
• Perform material take-offs and provide independent estimates at different stages of design as needed.
• Provide support to validate the changed orders cost estimate submitted by contractors.
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in cost estimating.
• Provide support to validate the invoices against contract and initial estimate.
• Monitor project costs and identify potential cost overruns.
• Prepare and present cost reports to project stakeholders
• Review and analyze cost estimates submitted by contractors.
• Work with RPMs and contractors to develop cost-effective construction solutions.
