Shift:

Full Time (40 hours per week)

Day Shift; 8:30am-5:00pm; weekend work not required

Non-Exempt; Pay Grade: NF

Position Summary:

Core Services Specialist IV utilizes excellent communication skills and knowledge to perform comprehensive patient scheduling and coordinate clinical operations for physicians within their division. The CSS IV communicates directly with physicians, medical staff, and patients, in order to appropriately coordinate care and facilitate patient flow. The CSS IV demonstrates a high level of independence, analytical thinking, and flexibility. Responsibilities include patient scheduling, identifying and obtaining pertinent clinical information and records, administrative duties, pre-registration, intervening with insurance related matters, proficiency with insurance guidelines, and billing functions. This requires the use of various automated computer systems, which requires JHH certification.

Education:

A.A. degree or equivalent required. B.A. degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

EPIC certification required within 90 days. Successful completion of departmental training program and all related competency assessments. Certification in various computer systems as necessary. EPIC certification required within 90 days. Medical terminology certification required or must pass JHH medical terminology assessment with passing grade of 70% or complete 10-12-week medical terminology course with grade of 70% within first year of employment to maintain position.

Required Work Experience:

5 years of related experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of medical and insurance terminology.
  • Technical competence and demonstrated proficiency with medical insurance plans, billing regulations and managed care plans, applicable to inpatient care.
  • Familiar with multiple payer's insurance verification and pre-certification guidelines.
  • Requires basic working knowledge of payer's billing and collection practices.
  • Able to obtain payer specific details, as necessary to ensure accurate coordination of benefits.
