General Statement of Job:
The Coordinator of Scholarships administers and markets the South Texas College Scholarship Program and serves as liaison to other South Texas College departments, external donors and works closely with the Office of Student Financial Services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops, manages, and maintains scholarship policies, procedures, and operations to ensure appropriate disbursement and fiscal accountability.
  2. Promotes the scholarship program in order to increase the number of scholarships and scholarship applications.
  3. Works with PR and marketing to develop literature to promote awareness of financial aid and scholarship opportunities for students and scholarships for specific majors.
  4. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for the Scholarship unit of the Office of Student Financial Services.
  5. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for the Financial Aid Outreach unit of the Office of Student Financial Services.
  6. Assure FA staff covers all the Financial Aid Outreach events, FAFSA drives, TASFA drives, FSA ID drives, FA classroom presentations, FA fairs, SAP workshops, and First Year Connection.
  7. Responsible for the certification of the Sallie Mae, College Access, and private loans.
  8. Implements policies and procedures while continuing to improve delivery systems, maximize office efficiency and improve overall scholarship unit effectiveness.
  9. Plans, evaluates, and sets yearly goals for the scholarship and outreach area.
  10. Collaborates with faculty and staff in order to promote scholarships; collaborates with Technology Resources staff to automate the scholarship application process.
  11. Participates actively in enrollment management and student retention activities.
  12. Develops and conducts presentations as needed.
  13. Annual presentation to the Board on the MEDA Scholarship expenditures and future projections.
  14. Develops and maintains strong communication with high school counselors and local ISDs.
  15. Manages the Financial Aid Outreach event request portal and schedules/assigns staff for financial aid events.
  16. Develop and maintains strong community relations with donors and potential donors and students.
  17. Provides projections, allocations and comprehensive reports as needed.
  18. Advises students concerning financial aid programs and alternative sources of aid.
  19. Disseminates financial aid information to college and high school counselors and other groups.
  20. Conducts packaging, cancellations and maintenance of student financial aid in accordance with program guidelines, regulations and policies.
  21. Participates in preparation for financial aid audits and prepares reports for The U.S. Department of Education and The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  22. Trains, evaluates and supervises classified and professional support financial aid staff.
  23. Serves as Campus Security Authority.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  2. At least two (2) years of experience in a related field or similar work setting, preferred.

  3. Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
