The School of Medicine is currently recruiting a Coordinator for Career Advisement in the Office of Academic Affairs. The coordinator is responsible for coordinating the career advisment program ensuring that all medical students receiving unbiased information regarding career planning, career exploration, specialty descriptions, residency match process, ERAS, personal statements, curriculum vita development and alternative career option resources for MD's. The coordinator will work with the career advisors to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the career advising and guidance program that includes career, personal, and social development. The coordinator will oversee scheduling for the career advising program. In addition, the coordinator will serve as a career counselor at .5 FTE while providing administrative oversight at .5 FTE.

  • Assigning students to specialty faculty for mentoring
  • Develop and oversee online scheduling
  • Develop and oversee the career website in coordination with the marketing team for the school of medicine

Career Advisement
  • Advising about career exploration, including clarifying goals and priorities.
  • Assistance with narrowing down career options, or considering new ones
  • Navigate challenges and roadblocks that relate to career and professional development
  • Facilitate of communication with/between residency advisors and/or other faculty mentors
  • Coordinate with the AAMC Careers in Medicine program, an online resource, which aids students in understanding their personality types, skills, interests, and values.
  • Provide guidance and assistance with MATCH preparation, including ERAS system.
  • Provide guidance and assistance with completing personal statement
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to interact with a wide range of learners, physicians and staff.
  • Ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish goals.
  • Knowledge of issues in affiliation and accreditation
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for students and commitment to professionalism.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Education or related field required, master's degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Five years' experience with medical student and resident education at an LCME-accredited US medical school preferred
  • Experience with medical student education.
  • Experience with project management and program coordination.
