General Description:

We are looking for an Electrical/Systems Engineer II/III with Military Combat Systems experience to help shape the Future Naval Surface Force!

The Combat Systems Electrical Engineer will provide technical support in the area of Combat Systems Engineering. He/She will Generate and/or maintain Combat System Cable Block Diagrams (CBD), Cable Installation / Interconnection Drawings (CIID); including Cable Running Sheets (CRS), Minimum Data Sets (MDS) and Cable Impact Statements (CIS).

He/she must be equipped and able to work as part of a highly skilled and multi-functional, multi-disciplined team in order to maintain support and assist in Combat Systems and Weapon Systems development, design and integration for in service ships as well as Future Surface Combatant Force (FSCF) ships, both manned and unmanned.

Qualified Combat Systems Electrical Engineer applicants will have a strong background in problem-solving and analytical skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. Combat Systems Engineers must also be self-motivated, reliable to deliver on time, quick thinking, be able to work in a fast-paced work environment and be familiar and comfortable with using computer software/programs.

A derivative of this exposure is the development if a well-rounded, advanced level of knowledge of systems administration, network administration, software and hardware troubleshooting, and process documentation.

General Duties:

Essential responsibilities and activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform practical engineering assignments as an integral contributor in product sustainment, design, development and test activities.
  • Review Combat System vendor design documentation for completeness and compatibility with prescribed ship builder specification, standards and requirements.
  • Perform the integration of Combat System cabling design documentation into shipboard and land site cabling Technical Data Products (TDP).
  • Conduct performance testing and qualification of electrical interface components.
  • Position could require intermittent travel to shipyards (incl. international), land based test facilities and other locations to meet customer needs and mission requirements .
  • Ability to apply mathematical and engineering principles and methods to electrical system designs.
  • Contributes to the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment, components, or systems.
  • Works directly with more senior engineers to develop new designs and solutions.
  • Provide management and planning services for technical reviews, engineering design recommendations for space changes and shipyard waterfront support.
  • Capture of schematic diagrams and models in our CAD tool suites, participation in peer and formal internal design reviews, providing guidance to designers for drawing development, and generation of all design and test documentation and deliverables.
  • Evaluate and review proposed Combat System and Weapon systems design, drawings, ICPs, ECPs and SHIPALTs to determine the technical and programmatic impact and recommend course of actions on shipbuilding systems engineering issues.
  • Provide flexible support to customer for the coordination of requirements reviews, technical reviews, and test events of Combat Systems on all US Navy Surface Ships and the Future Naval Surface Force.
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participating in in-depth technical reviews and engineering meetings
  • Providing technical feedback and recommendations to clients
  • Interacting with client and their subcontractor in the assessment and review of deliverables, and integration with C4I systems, and platform design
  • Participating in engineering and system working groups and independently identifying and resolving system issues to ensure customer needs are met
  • Supporting a culture of collaboration, enthusiasm and a proactive nature within the project
  • Surface Warfare operational analysis and engineering design support, development, and testing
  • Concept of employment, Concept of operation evaluation and development
  • Define or perform review of Interface Requirement Specifications (Weapons specs, Communications specs, Data Links, etc.)
  • Support Combat Systems critical task analysis for all watch positions
  • Topside integration and arrangements
  • Training and training system design and development


Minimum Skill Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship and Active Secret Security Clearance Are Required.
  • B.S. or Advanced Degree in engineering or related discipline
  • 2-4 (+) Years of Electrical or Systems Engineering work
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of both military and commercial electrical interface protocols, Combat System integration criteria, equipment interaction methods, major signal flows, as well as, USN and commercial Shipbuilding Specifications.
  • Knowledge of DOD/USN Military Specifications for shipboard electrical equipment, electrical cables, data transmission standards, equipment/cable installation requirements for bonding, grounding, assembly and testing. Examples are Mil-Std 1310, Mil-Std 1399, DOD Std 2003, Mil-Std 2042.
  • Intermediate level of understanding of the AEGIS Combat System program philosophies including the Shipbuilders role, the role of the major equipment vendors of the ACS, and the role of the Land Sites as Development, Test, Acceptance, Production, and Training facilities for AEGIS
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of both military and commercial cables and connectors, including material types and the advantages of each.
  • Good understanding of commercial technologies and specifications for fiber optic, digital, video, and communication systems.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.
  • Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working dynamic programs with fluctuating scope and integrated coordination of multiple engineering disciplines
  • Desired but not required:
  • Possess an understanding of US Navy system architecture and combat systems across logical, functional, hardware, software components
  • Possess operational knowledge of US Navy combatants, weapon systems, and threats
  • Experience interfacing with shipbuilders of Navy vessels
  • Experience managing the installation, testing, and repair of fiber optic cabling
  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, testing, and supporting US Navy and combat systems


Security Requirements:

Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.
