The Health & Counseling Center (HCC) is a fully integrated, on-campus, accredited college health center that provides a wide range of medical and mental health services. The University of Denver is deeply committed to Inclusive Excellence and Equity and seeks a Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator who possesses cultural humility and a strong understanding of systems of oppression and can integrate those perspective into all their work. This position works in the Collegiate Recovery Program unit at the HCC.

The mission of the HCC is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery support services. Most shifts are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional shifts from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health professionals staff the HCC. All students enrolled for academic credit (full-time or part-time, undergraduate, or graduate) may use the HCC.

As a unit of the Health and Counseling Center (HCC), the CRP supports its mission to provide exceptional, inclusive, integrated health care. We promote student success and wellness through education, advocacy, and outreach to the University of Denver community. The HCC is an on-campus health facility that provides a wide range of on-site medical and mental health services.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator will support the Director of the Collegiate Recovery Program in developing and growing efforts related to students in recovery at the University of Denver. The CRP supports the community for students who are in recovery from substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. The Program Coordinator will support this initiative and the Director of the CRP through sustaining and expanding a campus-based infrastructure to empower recovering students by providing support and relapse prevention initiatives and promoting academic excellence. The Center for Collegiate Recovery offers a community lounge, alcohol and drug-free social events, recovery housing, recovery support meetings, peer mentoring, and educational seminars and events. The Collegiate Recovery Community is a supportive environment within the campus culture that reinforces the decision to pursue recovery. It is designed to provide academic excellence alongside recovery support to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

The Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of the Collegiate Recovery Community, student events and activities, inquiries about the program, management of the space, and responding to questions about the University and programmatic issues. The CRP Coordinator will also assist CRP members in their transition into school and out of school, as well as help them navigate the University by connecting them with resources both on and off campus. Other duties include providing one on one support to the students and serving as a point of contact for students, parents, faculty, and staff, and delivering outreach and educational presentations.

This position does not provide clinical services for students in recovery. Instead, the Collegiate Recovery Community Coordinator will focus on nurturing a community for students in recovery from alcohol and other drugs alongside the Director. Additionally, the Coordinator will be responsible for solidifying recovery programming and meetings on campus. The CRC Coordinator will also be responsible for collaborating with recovery organizations and with the University of Denver Health Promotion team to implement substance-free programming and harm reduction strategies for the entire student population. Harm reduction strategies include a campus-wide Opioid Overdose Prevention program led by the Coordinator. This person will serve as a resource to accommodate the full spectrum of addictive behaviors and alcohol and other drug use for students at DU.

This role is a full-time, 12-month, benefited position and reports to the Director of the Collegiate Recovery Program. This position requires frequent evening and weekend engagements.

Essential Functions

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Support CRP strategic plans, goals, and vision
  • Provide case management
  • Oversee Collegiate Recovery Community space and maintain a physical presence
  • Support recovery housing and provide programming for the recovery housing residents
  • Assist the director with the assessment of CRP and programming efforts
  • Provide monthly and annual reports to the director
  • Experience managing a program budget
  • Monitor student compliance with all DU and CRP policies and procedures
  • Supervision of any CRP student interns/workers/volunteers
  • Play an integral role in the Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence team to advocate for students in recovery
  • Cooperation and referral as appropriate with critical campus partners (i.e., Housing and Residential Education, Learning
  • Effectiveness Program, Student Outreach and Support, and the Disability Services Program)
  • Serve and represent the CRP on divisional and institutional committees
Collegiate Recovery Services
  • Use a holistic approach to support CRP students personal development
  • Oversee implementation and evaluation of current and new CRC programs
  • Establish 1:1 recovery coaching sessions with members of the CRC
  • Respond to student inquiries about university and programmatic issues, as well as assist students in completing the paperwork needed to participate in the Collegiate Recovery Community and Recovery Housing
  • Assist students with all paperwork and administrative barriers to success as a student
  • Monitor student compliance in the program and University
  • Monitor membership and applications for the program
  • Work with the director to assure the anonymity of all students in research/evaluation activities
  • Support all recovery meetings for CRC
  • Requires weekend and evening hours to provide programming for students, especially at critical times
Educational Activities Responsibilities
  • Provide orientation for students entering the CRP
  • Collaborate with Health Promotion and various departments on campus for outreach presentations on SUD and recovery issues (e.g., Opioid Overdose Response/Narcan and Recovery Ally Training, DU Town Hall, National Recovery Day and Month, Mental Health Awareness Week)
  • Support instructional workshops and educational opportunities for students
Communication and Recruitment Responsibilities
  • Support the creation and dissemination of marketing and other publication materials for the program
  • Respond to all emails, phone, and walk-in correspondence from students, and other campus or community members
  • Execute ongoing communication plan strategies through various DU channels (Pulse, Bridge, academic department newsletters, etc.)
  • Update and maintain CRC content on the du.edu/crc website
  • Proficiency in technological features including Zoom, Office 365, Microsoft Suite products, and social media (Instagram, Twitter, GroupMe)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least two years of experience working full-time with adolescents and young adults in recovery
  • Knowledge of addiction, recovery, and relapse prevention theories and practice
  • Previous experience working with recovering students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a related field
  • Familiarity with 12-step and/or other recovery programs is preferred
  • Experience working with substance abuse and recovery populations
  • Development and oversight of a Collegiate Recovery Community
  • Experience as a Coordinator of a CRC/CRP
  • Understanding of University System and Higher Education
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence
  • Experience with grant writing and award evaluation
  • Recovery coaching certification
  • Meditation and/or yoga certification

Working Environment

Standard, supportive, and flexible office environment, unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high, noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time, occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. Maintain physical space with light cleaning duties as necessary.

Work Schedule
This position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-5:00pm with some weekends, evenings and holidays.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
