CLINICAL REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
UAB Libraries at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an innovative, proactive, and motivated reference librarian to join the hospital library team. A branch of UAB Libraries, Lister Hill Library at University Hospital is on site within the university's academic tertiary care center, the only Magnet-designated hospital in the state. This librarian will support the education, research, and patient care activities of a variety of clienteles in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical space. They will also have the opportunity to interact closely with the Center for Nursing Excellence through a variety of embedded activities. As a member of the library faculty, this individual will be expected to contribute to the profession and build a record of progressive scholarly and professional achievement. Responsibilities include research consultations, searching assistance, development of instructional materials and guides, customized group and individual instruction, and point-of-use reference. The successful candidate will participate on library, hospital, and university committees.
Required: ALA accredited MLS or equivalent, excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated experience in reference support, strong public service orientation, flexibility, ability to manage projects and work independently, and demonstrated ability to interact well with varied clienteles and co-workers.
Preferred: one year professional experience in a health or life sciences library or a hospital library, demonstrated skill in interacting with adult learners, knowledge of evidence-based practice principles, and experience with supporting nursing activities.
This is a non-tenure-track faculty position with academic rank at the time of appointment dependent on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. This position is located in the Lister Hill Library at University Hospital and reports to the Clinical Services Librarian. Salary commensurate with experience.
