McKinley Health Center, one of the nation's premier Student Health Centers, is seeking a talented clinical psychologist for full-time employment. We are a fully accredited ambulatory care clinic providing primary care to 50,000 university students. In addition to mental health care, the center also provides women's health, and primary care services.

We are seeking dynamic service-oriented psychologist for an exciting career in College Health to provide mental health care services in an ambulatory setting for eligible students at the University of Illinois. This position involves no call responsibilities.

Salary is competitive and includes an attractive, comprehensive benefit package with professional liability coverage. Starting date is negotiable.

A Ph.D or a Psy.D degree in Psychology and a valid Illinois medical license (or eligibility for licensure in Illinois) are required for consideration. Experience in college health and experience or certification working with mental health conditions are preferred.

~~Patient Care Responsibilities

1. Take patient histories, sufficient to address the patient's chief complaint and other mental health concerns.

2. Provide mental health assessment and treatment for students with mental health problems. Appropriate treatments may include individual, couples and group psychotherapy, or referral for hospitalization, and be consistent with limitations of MHU staff resources.

3. Provide emergency triage for crisis evaluation and management, including development of a safety /crisis plan, when necessary.

4. Utilize psychological testing to clarify diagnosis when indicated.

5. Conduct individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, if applicable. Individual and couples therapy will ordinarily be short term.

6. Make referrals to other providers as appropriate to facilitate treatment plan with standard and crisis interventions. This may include out-patient psychotherapeutic techniques or facilitating hospitalization at community hospitals on behalf of students.

7. Consult with other mental health care professionals, physicians and/or health care professionals to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plan.

8. Ensure that patients receive adequate education to effectively participate in their diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and that they understand and assent to that plan and understand other appropriate alternatives.

9. Complete all visit documentation in an appropriate and timely manner as determined by policy.

10. Display competency with regard to diagnosis and procedure coding.

11. Adhere to established Health Center policies and procedures including maintenance of records.

12. Develop and maintain technical skills necessary to provide excellent and efficient patient care. This includes competency with computer applications that enhance individual patient care and the efficiency of the health center.

13. Be efficient in the care of patients with regard to time spent with patients, number of patients seen, and resources utilized, such as consultations.

14. Be effective in the care of patients, with regard to overall patient outcomes, satisfaction and cultural competence.

15. Provide patient access by staffing clinics and special events per policy.

16. Provide psychological consultation to Mental Health Unit clinicians.

17. Provide psychological consultation to health service providers, Counseling Center staff, Housing and other appropriate University faculty and staff.

Practice Responsibilities

18. Share on-call responsibilities for after hours and weekend mental health emergencies. (Currently, there is no formal on-call responsibilities. This policy is subject to change if University needs should require.)

19. Participate in Mental Health Unit staff meetings and case conferences.

20. Actively participate in McKinley's quality improvement and risk management programs and its peer review processes as outlined in policy and annual plans.

21. Attend and participate in assigned McKinley and campus committees.

22. Participate in university and health center promotions and promotional material as needed.

23. Assume appropriate related additional duties to further the mission of the unit.

General Responsibilities

24. Utilize other members of the health care team appropriate to their skill level, licensure, and classification.

25. Treat patients, staff, and colleagues with courtesy and respect.

26. Adhere to University, Civil Service, Health Center and individual unit policies and procedures that serve as guidelines for individual practice. Guidelines for patient care management are the protocols of care.

27. Work within scope of practice and comply with privileges granted.

28. Responsible and accountable to support and ensure a culture of safety, quality and risk management including compliance with ethics.

29. Stay informed of the newest developments in mental health by attending educational conferences, literature reviews, and consulting with other medical personnel.

30. Maintain a current Illinois license, Illinois Licensed Controlled Substance registration and federal DEA controlled drug registration, if applicable.

31. Register and maintain access to the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program, if applicable.
