About the College/Unit/Department:

As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFECOE) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.

Named for Mary Frances Early, UGA's first African American graduate, in February 2020, the MFE COE has a long and distinguished history as a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our other strengths include a) partnerships with multiple units on campus, in the local community, and across the state of Georgia, b) faculty expertise manifested in well- regarded scholarship and applied practice, and c) recognition of our academic programs by external stakeholders.

The Department of Kinesiology has 29 full-time faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in the academic areas of athletic training, exercise and sport science, health and physical education, and sport management and policy. Department faculty members have established community-based programs in the areas of adapted physical education, cerebral palsy, and stroke rehabilitation. The Department has exceptional facilities in the Ramsey Center located on the main campus in Athens, Georgia. Position Summary:

The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Exercise and Sport Science program to begin August 1, 2024. The Department seeks to hire a non-tenure track faculty member who will teach four courses per semester that will serve students in the Exercise and Sport Science major and minor programs, the Personal Health and Well-being minor program, as well as students interested in working with individuals with disabilities.

The Clinical Assistant Professor in the Exercise and Sport Science program will have the following Responsibilities:

  • Fall/Spring Instructional load: 1) Supervision of a community-based health and wellness program designed to serve the local disability community, 2) Exercise is Medicine class, 3 & 4) Two additional classes aligned with kinesiology expertise.
  • Develop and teach new courses within area of specialization as needed.
  • Contribute to service activities at the program, department, college, and university levels.
Additional Requirements:

  • One year of teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses related to exercise and sport science.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise/develop community-based physical activity programming.
  • Must have 5 years of discipline specific practical experience in school, higher education, community, business or clinical settings. Fields included in this group are: adult education, athletic training, college student affairs, educational foundations, exercise science, recreation and leisure, and sport management.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:

  • One year or more of full-time undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience related to exercise and sport science. (May be part of the five years of discipline specific practical experience above.)
  • National certification from one of the leading applied physical activity/sport agencies (ACSM, NASM, etc.).
  • One semester or more of undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience related to disability.
