Chief Executive Officer

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

LYRASIS catalyzes and enables equitable access to the world's knowledge and cultural heritage.

THE SEARCH

LYRASIS, a global non-profit at the vanguard of library sciences and technology, seeks a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with deep commitment to facilitating equitable access to the world's academic, scientific, and cultural knowledge. LYRASIS is a critical provider of technologies, tools, and services for its over 1,000 member institutions, including academic and public libraries, museums, archives, and other collections-holding organizations located in 28 countries. The next CEO of LYRASIS will be an authentic community partner and an aspirational institutional leader who will enable the organization to flourish programmatically, operationally, and culturally and will help define the LYRASIS vision and strategy for the coming years.

LYRASIS was created by its members to tackle wide-ranging challenges with a collective strength. LYRASIS builds this capacity through a variety of programs and services, including content sharing and licensing; open technologies; hosting; community supported programs; strategic investments; and expert consulting and training. Since 2017, LYRASIS has creatively broadened its reach and impact and has invested more than $3.5 million into community supported software development, new pilot projects, and research and innovation. In 2019, LYRASIS merged with DuraSpace, a globally recognized leader in open-source software, and in 2021 acquired BiblioLabs, a company providing community engagement services and content distribution for libraries. Also in 2021, LYRASIS launched the Palace Project, a transformational platform supporting the delivery of e-books, audiobooks, and other digital media for public libraries.

LYRASIS has proven itself to be flexible and adaptable during this period of progression. LYRASIS's FY2022 operating expenses total $5 million and its revenue totals over $83 million, with an expected increase to $116 million as its Content and Scholarly Communications division grows. The majority of LYRASIS's revenue is derived through sales of services and products, with the remainder largely derived from membership dues and federal and private grant funding. LYRASIS is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and is supported by a geographically distributed staff of 86, a 10-member board of trustees, and a diverse network of supporting communities and institutions.

LYRASIS seeks a transformative CEO to lead the organization into its next phase of development. Working in close collaboration with board and staff, the CEO will establish a comprehensive strategic plan, adapt LYRASIS to its recent growth, and ensure that all programs are appropriately configured and integrated around a shared vision. The CEO will mentor and develop a collaborative team of dedicated professionals; ensure a healthy, equitable, inclusive, and transparent internal culture; collaborate with and learn from a diverse array of constituencies; and develop a clear and powerful communications strategy.

The CEO will bring demonstrated experience successfully leading an organization or unit related to LYRASIS's mission, programs and services, and complexity. The next CEO will also bring expertise in translating a vision and strategy into a practical plan, with experience in change management, staff and financial leadership, and resource generation and stewardship. They will be an effective manager of people, with particular interest and skill in facilitation, and a strong collaborator and communicator with colleagues, partners, and peers. Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) and a track record in advancing DEIA are essential. Experience working with a governing board is preferable.
