Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry or a related field
  • Must work on-site in Manistee, MI
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc...)
  • Process-oriented, meticulous, and a desire for lifelong learning
  • Able to work and learn independently
  • Excellent communication skills and accountability within a group setting
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills

The ideal candidate would have experience in operating and/or maintaining various analytical equipment such as:
  • Analytical balances
  • Carbon/Sulfur LECO Analyzer
  • Colorimeter
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma - UV/Vis Spectrometer (ICP-UV/Vis)
  • Laser Particle Size Analyzer
  • pH Electrode & Ion-Specific Electrode (ISE)
  • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Sedigraph Particle Size Analyzer
  • Surface Area Analyzer
  • Viscometer
  • X-ray Diffraction Spectrometer (XRD)
  • X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF)

Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your co-workers through the implementation of and participation in proactive safety activities.
  • Support the quality department in performing occasional benchtop analysis, developing and improving analytical methods, and establishing point of use training for routine testing by lab analysts.
  • Establish familiarity with all on-site analytical equipment to assist with routine maintenance, trouble-shooting, equipment validation, calibration, and optimization.
  • Maintain and qualify analytical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintain standards (both in-house and traceable) and their required documentation.
  • Maintain and organize the statistical analysis of analytical testing (QA/QC control charts, error analysis, QC spikes & duplicates, etc...).
  • Organize and utilize historical data to assist the quality, production, and engineering departments.
  • Work closely with the engineering, production, environmental, and quality departments on continual improvement and R&D projects.
  • Support the quality department by performing occasional internal audits and verifying that corrective actions are effectively established.
  • Generate reports, SOP's, templates, and other documentation.
  • Research patents and new technology as requested.
  • Work with outside laboratories and vendors as needed for validation and training.

Physical Requirements
  • Walking, climbing stairs, sitting for long periods of time
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving and squatting to perform the essential functions of this position
  • Visual acuity, clear speech & hearing ability, hand/eye coordination
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and Health and Safety guidelines as required
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to safely fulfill all in-plant job requirements
  • Pass required background check, physical examination and drug screens
