Responsibilities

The Charge Management Specialist is responsible for reviewing and appealing coding denials within the designated payer timeframes. He/she works closely with Physician Practices and Account Resolution as an educational resource to inform and educate departments on the latest government regulation and requirements, including CMS, the State, and payer regulations related to these changes. The Charge Management Specialist also collaborates with cross-campus counterpart(s) to ensure clinical documentation in high risk areas is consistent and complete. The Charge Management Specialist uses analytical skills to identify trends in payer denials and translates this information into Charge Review edits that will be used to prevent future denials. Incumbent will assist in edit design and may participate in the development and implementation of training for Charge Capture Specialists.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from accrediated institution required. Bachelor's degree in Health Information, Healthcare, Business or Medical Office Administration preferred.

Required Minimum Experience:
  • Two Years Healthcare Account Resolution experience or two years experience in Physician billing.

Required Minimum Certification:
  • Professional coding certification required (CPC through AAPC or CCS-P through AHIMA).
Required Minimum Skills:

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, families, public, co-workers, and professional offices
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Detail-oriented, good organizational skills, and ability to be self-directed
