Baker Botts has an immediate opening for a Catering Attendant. Under direct supervision, performs a variety of functions as part of a team with other catering attendants and conference services assistants to provide service for designated conference rooms and break rooms. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with excellent benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Open Conference Floor each morning.
  • Greet vendors and review incoming orders for accuracy.
  • Prepare and set all conference rooms in advance of meetings. This includes preparing plates and silverware in advance of meetings. Clean conference rooms promptly upon the end of meetings. These duties require the ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time; as well as to lift and move equipment weighing approximately 30 pounds.
  • Facilitate meal service in conference rooms, including placement of food into serving dishes. This requires lifting chafers weighing 30 pounds. Ensure that any and all food items are presented and served correctly, adhering to departmental standards.
  • Make coffee for multiple locations throughout the day.
  • Keep coffee bars and conference rooms clean and stocked with supplies. Cleaning is required multiple times throughout the day and involves clearing dishes, loading and unloading dishwashers, and organizing items. Restocking includes replacing beverages, fruit, glassware and mugs. These duties require the ability to push or pull a loaded dolly or cart on carpeted or uncarpeted flooring without assistance.
  • Take, maintain and stock proper inventory for over 200 items. This will include lifting boxes of up to 30 pounds.
  • Assist with light maintenance tasks, including constant monitoring of areas that need attention or cleaning, monitoring and adjusting blind levels for uniformity, taking note and reporting light bulbs that need to be replaced, etc.
  • Responsible for Catering Kitchen tasks including washing dishes, putting dishes away, cleaning work surfaces, “rolling” silverware, monitoring maintenance items, preparing for large events with up to 100 people.
  • Clean and maintain coffee machines and refrigerators. Cleaning supplies may be stored in locations that require the ability to bend, crawl, twist and pull.
  • Ensure proper communication between self and Conference Services Coordinator, teammates and other support departments.
  • Other projects as assigned by Partner in Charge and Office Administrator.
Other duties and responsibilities:
  • Maintain office supplies stocked in conference rooms.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Office Administrator.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma is required. Ability to read and write English in order to process informational messages and instructions.
  • Minimum six months work experience required.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work well independently, as well as with others is required.
  • Must have basic Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and established procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks associated with conference room schedules and events.
  • Must have willingness to learn and initiative to take on new tasks.
  • Must have strong organizational, decision-making skills and problem solving skills.
  • Must be reliable and a self-starter.
  • Must have professional demeanor. Uniform is required.
Extent of Contact (Within and outside the Firm)
  • Extensive daily contact with lawyers, staff and colleagues.
  • Frequent contact with outside visitors and vendors.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to push or pull loaded dolly weighing approximately 30 pounds, on carpeted or uncarpeted flooring without assistance.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry catering supplies such as, food trays and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to retrieve and replace objects from high shelves using appropriate step ladder.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for 4 hours daily.
  • Must be able to sit, concentrate and work for 1 hour without a break.
  • Must be able to lift, squat, kneel and bend and have the ability to lift 30 lbs.
Working Conditions and Environment
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19, subject to accommodation.
  • This role is performed 100% in the New York office.
  • Work is normally performed in a standard office environment but may, on occasion, involve moderate exposure to dust, dirt and/or extreme temperature.
  • Position is full-time and requires a five-day workweek and standard hours as outlined in the firm policy manual. Must be available to work overtime, to perform the essential duties of the position.
