About the Position:

SMU Libraries seeks to hire a full-time Business Undergraduate Program Librarian as part of a dynamic instructional team that supports the academic experience and retention of undergraduate and graduate students with the goal of integrating information literacy across the curriculum.

SMU Libraries supports the academic and research goals of faculty and students through a team-based approach. Our Teaching and Research Teams are actively building a portfolio of services for faculty in an environment with strong university support and creative leadership. Our vision is for a seamless experience for faculty to engage with a cross-organizational team of campus-wide information professionals.

Reporting directly to the Director of the Business Library, the Business Undergraduate Program Librarian will create and deliver innovative instruction services working closely with the Business Library Team and the interdisciplinary SMU Libraries Teaching Team and will regularly collaborate with additional SMU Libraries Teams.

This position will focus on teaching and learning in the various disciplines of the Cox School of Business. The ideal candidate will be student-focused, enterprising, growth-oriented, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative, team-based environment. The candidate should demonstrate openness to exploring and implementing new ideas and practices. The primary purpose of this job is delivering the BBA Library Research Program to all Cox School of Business undergraduate students, a stated promise in the SMU Catalog. Responsibilities include instructing students in library research and information literacy skills through classroom settings and workshop formats. The job requires working closely with faculty teaching BBA courses to ensure our information literacy program remains current and relevant as the curriculum and student learning needs change.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs students in library research and information literacy skills and contributes to the ongoing development of the BBA Library Research Program, which is a comprehensive framework of scaffolded instruction.
  • Works collaboratively with students to increase business acumen and industry-focused communication.
  • Teaches dynamic and interactive business-focused research workshops to the SMU community.
  • Actively collaborates with the Business Library Team and the larger Teaching Team of SMU Libraries to reflect upon and develop meaningful practices.
  • Provides business reference services for students, faculty & staff virtually and in person.
  • Creates and maintains digital materials and services, such as online research guides.
  • Participates in local, regional, or national library conferences and committees. Continues growth through professional development.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an ALA-accredited master's degree in Library Science by date of hire
  • Experience in instruction of research techniques and information literacy
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in information literacy instruction in an academic library
  • Experience in business reference
  • Demonstrated experience in creating instructional objects and online research guides
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new resources and tools quickly
  • Knowledge of critical information literacy for business disciplines
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is required.

Knowledge of SpringShare LibGuides is preferred.

Occasional weekend hours may be required.
