Job Summary
The Business Continuity Analyst is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing and monitoring activities for the Bank's enterprise-wide Business Continuity Management Program according to corporate policy and established standards based on regulatory requirements and Business Continuity industry professional practices. This includes the areas of emergency response, crisis management, business continuity, and acting in a consultative role with Vendor Risk Management, Information Technology and other Enterprise Risk Management disciplines. This position will assist in development of business continuity strategies, plans, exercise/test and maintenance activities, including administration of specialized software tools and management reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist in development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Bank's Business Continuity Management Program (BCMP) based on established policy and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor program elements and procedures necessary for a sustainable BCMP based on compliance to regulatory requirements and to ensure a state of corporate preparedness.
  • Collaborate with all business areas of the organization to improve operational resiliency and support the Bank's strategic direction.
  • Participate, assist and/or advise on topics related to continuity of day-to-day operations and corporate initiatives to include business continuity requirements. Assist in identifying vulnerabilities and determine methods and measures to mitigate risk for continuity of day-to-day business operations.
  • Perform day-to-day efforts in development, enhancement and maintenance of business continuity program elements, including procedures and methods for monitoring compliance based on corporate policies, standards and regulatory guidelines, i.e. risk assessment, business impact analysis, plan approval and maintenance activities.
  • Analyze response, continuity and recovery strategies to find weaknesses, exposures and improvements.
  • Assist in the development and administration of business continuity plan exercises strategies, process and procedures including annual plan/schedule for facilitating exercises that ensure issue identification and resolution action plans.
  • Assist in the development of procedures for administering annual risk assessments, business impact analysis, development and approval of BCMP elements (plans, strategies, etc.).
  • Assist in management reporting processes and assist with preparation of annual board reports.
  • Assist in preparation for both internal and external audit events and activities.


Execute BCMP Program.
  • Coordinate, administer and support activities in the annual process of conducting and validating Risk Assessments and Business Impact Analyses (BIA).
  • Support prioritization for recovery of applications, dependencies and business processes based on criticality, along with changes and new opportunities for continuity and recovery strategies that meet the business needs through BIA and Risk Assessment results.
  • Coordinate, support, and assist business processes in the development, exercising, and maintenance of business continuity plans.
  • Act as liaison to business units to develop response and recovery plans to meet enterprise requirements.
  • Coordinate with business units to automate processes for maintenance activities and improvement opportunities of BCMP planning and notification tools.
  • Collaborate with Vendor Risk Management and business units in the review and monitoring of BCM preparedness with third parties, vendors, etc.
  • Support the business units and third-party servicers in conducting and assessing recovery/continuity capabilities during DR/BCP testing, both on the vendor-initiated tests and IT DR testing.


Act as liaison with Information Technology (IT) to coordinate development and maintenance of BCMP elements related to technology.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an IT DR plan.
  • Assist in the documentation and maintenance process of IT systems recovery, restoration and testing procedures.
  • Assist with identifying application dependencies.
  • Assist with business units and IT disaster recovery team to prepare business continuity plans for participation in disaster recovery drills (test), including corporate remote operations and support locations.
  • Assist as needed with all business area liaisons during IT disaster recovery testing activities.
  • Assist IT and business units in the process of coordinating and conducting third party/vendor recovery test requests and activities.
  • Assist in monitoring issues identified during IT DR drills (both internal and third party) are resolved in a timely fashion.


Participate in the Business Continuity Training Program
  • Assist in development and implementation and manage a corporate-wide employee training awareness program that communicates policies, procedures and management expectations relating to business continuity.
  • Recommend program enhancements, and modify training documentation as necessary to ensure continued awareness of the need for and benefits of business continuity.


Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business or IT is desired
  • Professional Certifications: CBCP, MBCP, MBCI Preferred
  • Specialized Training: In the discipline of Business Continuity Management or Project Management
  • 1-3 years in BCM (experience performing assessments, proven experience and ability to assess, identify and provide satisfactory resolution of risk gaps and issues, active participation in business continuity exercises, and test.)
  • 1+ year experience in BCM software (implementation, design, maintenance for automated notification, and plan documentation)

  • The job requires a moderate degree of physical exertion and stamina such as standing, sitting, walking, driving or infrequent lifting.
  • May be required to work extended hours if a business interruption or disaster declaration occurs.
  • 24 hour on-call required.
