The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician with a passion for working with children and adolescents needing eating disorder treatment.

The Eating Disorder Treatment team specializes in providing care that is evidence based, individualized, and comprehensive. UI has been providing treatment to individuals with eating disorders for over four decades and our multidisciplinary team includes dietitians, educational consultants, nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, recreational therapists, pharmacists, music therapists, and social workers. We work alongside patients to help them learn effective strategies to treat the symptoms of an eating disorder and to address past and present emotional needs. The ideal candidate will work with our current treatment programs-providing specialized practice skills in psychiatry assessment, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, consultation, program development, supervision, teaching and training, and public education. This position will deliver outpatient and inpatient child/adolescent eating disorder services at UIHC and/or Off-site clinic (in Iowa City). Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides planned and emergent mental health assessments of child/adolescent patients presenting with a range of eating disorder symptoms and other mental health concerns in an outpatient clinic.
  • Formulates diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM 5.
  • Provides suicide risk assessment.
  • Differentially provides a wide range of therapeutic interventions including behavior modification, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal modalities of treatment.
  • Provides group and individual psychotherapy in a child/adolescent inpatient setting.
  • Assists in the creation of training materials and conducting training as appropriate. May include follow-up with care providers following discharge from unit.
  • Assists in writing reports, including treatment recommendations.
  • Supervision is received from received from the Behavioral Health Clinic Manager and the Clinical Director of the Eating Disorders Service. Supervision may be exercised over trainees (practicum students, interns, graduate assistants) as appropriate.

Percent of Time: 50-100%
Hours: M-F, 8-5

Education Required
Master's Degree in Counseling or a related field.

Certification Required
Professional license to practice Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Iowa is required (LMFT or LMHC).

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with evidence-based practices including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
Experience providing psychotherapy to child/adolescent patients with eating disorders.
Excellent verbal communication skills; including demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and experience leading and/or participating as a member of work teams and groups.
Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience using email, spreadsheet and word processing programs and using the internet for conducting research and locating resources.
Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment

Desirable Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of experience post-graduate education
Extensive experience providing evidence-based eating disorder treatment for children, adolescents, and families (e.g., Cognitive behavioral, family-based therapy, parent management training, interpersonal psychotherapy, and/or dialectical behavior psychotherapies.
Experience providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy services to distressed and emotionally charged patients in adolescent and child outpatient clinic and inpatient settings.
Experience providing individual and group psychotherapy to adult patients.
Training and supervision experience
