The Office of VP & General Counsel has an exciting opportunity for an Attorney to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Attorney reports directly to the Vice President and General Counsel of the University of Miami. The Office of the General Counsel advises officials of the University on the legal and regulatory issues confronting a major research university. The Attorney will provide a high level of professional legal service to the University by representing and advising the University on a variety of legal matters as assigned by the General Counsel. The Attorney advises administrators and staff of the University on matters of law, and implications of business and policy decisions. Much of the work will be "preventive" practice, and requires an understanding of the institution, the ability to anticipate problems before they arise, and to counsel upper level administration in this regard.

Numerous legal issues confront a major research university including, real estate transactions; development, fundraising, endowments, and gift agreements; regulatory compliance; healthcare matters, including transactional, administrative, and regulatory issues; intellectual property and technology transfer; sponsored programs; policy development; and general corporate law.

The attorney will be required to have expertise for specific areas of responsibility of the position; however, the attorney is expected to have to work in all the areas listed above.

This position requires strong critical thinking and strategic skills; excellent legal research, analysis and reasoning; robust oral and written communication skills, including negotiation skills; demonstrated public-speaking aptitude; an ability to identify and resolve complicated and sensitive problems creatively and with professional discretion; superior organization skills; and the ability to interact and function effectively and independently in an academic and healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Juris Doctorate Degree

Certification and Licensing:

Florida Bar License

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of legal experience
